British footwear brand Dr. Martens has a change-up in its leadership as Darren McKoy, the global creative director, announced that he would be leaving the company after 10 years.

McKoy shared his decision in a heartfelt LinkedIn post, reflecting on a decade that saw the brand grow from a £136 million business into a £1 billion global powerhouse.

McKoy joined Dr. Martens in 2015, having previously worked at Adidas Originals, The North Face, and Asics Tiger. By 2022, he had risen to global creative director, overseeing the brand’s design and creative direction.

“Dr. Martens is so much more than a brand—it’s a cultural icon, a symbol of self-expression, and a unifying force for communities around the world,” McKoy wrote in his post.

McKoy’s leadership played a pivotal role in the brand’s progression. From bold product innovations to maintaining Dr. Martens’ iconic aesthetic, McKoy emphasized the importance of staying true to the company’s roots while pushing creative boundaries. “We set out with a clear vision, stayed true to our roots, and pushed boundaries—and it’s that relentless focus, along with the dedication of talented teams, that propelled the brand to where it stands today,” McKoy stated.

McKoy’s exit comes as Ije Nwokorie takes the helm as the company’s new CEO. Nwokorie, formerly the chief brand officer, officially began his role on the same day McKoy announced his departure.

McKoy remains optimistic about the brand’s future and the next generation of Dr. Martens wearers. “The 1460 boot will always hold a special place in my heart, and no matter where the road leads, the yellow stitch will forever be a symbol of resilience, rebellion, and everything we’ve built together,” he wrote.
