The NFL has announced the extension of its partnership with JAY-Z’s Roc Nation to continue curating the Super Bowl Halftime Show, according to a report by Bloomberg yesterday.
This collaboration on one of the most-watched musical performances in the world began in 2019 with a five-year, $25 million deal.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed satisfaction with the partnership during a meeting with NFL owners in Atlanta.
“It’s been a mutually positive relationship,” Goodell stated, adding that both JAY-Z and Roc Nation’s CEO, Desiree Perez, are pleased with the arrangement. While specific details of the extension, including its duration and financial terms, have not been disclosed, the continuation signals a successful venture for both parties.
Since taking charge of the Halftime Show, Roc Nation has been responsible for booking headline acts and has also played a crucial role in the NFL’s social justice initiative, Inspire Change.
Looking ahead, Roc Nation is already preparing for the next major event. The NFL recently announced that Kendrick Lamar will headline the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans on February 9, 2025. This decision, however, has not been without controversy. Some critics, including rapper Lil Wayne, expressed disappointment that a New Orleans native wasn’t chosen for the performance in their hometown.
Despite such criticisms, the NFL and Roc Nation appear committed to their vision for the Halftime Show. Fans are already speculating about potential guest appearances, with many hoping to see collaborations that showcase the rich musical heritage of New Orleans.
