Fatman Scoop reportedly passed away at the age of 53. Known for his booming voice and energetic stage presence, Fatman Scoop collapsed suddenly on stage amid a concert in Hamden, Connecticut, Friday night.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the following was posted on X from Sharron Elkabas, CEO of Fatman Scoop:

“The DJ had an energy drink before going on stage for the show where he collapsed and later died. He never drank energy drinks, but he did before the show.”

Born Isaac Freeman III, he was best known for his 1999 hit, Be Faithful, in which he hyped up the crowd over a sample of Faith Evans’ 1998 hit Love Like This. This track became a global anthem that still dominates club scenes to this day. It even topped the UK Singles Chart.

His fun style made him beloved in the music world thanks to him bringing unlimited excitement to the scene.

Even beyond the global anthem, Fatman Scoop built his phenomenal career from the ground up as a hype-man and dynamic voice on the radio. He made music with some of the best music talents the world has ever seen, including Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott, and Busta Rhymes. A hit like It’s Like That with Carey highlighted his talent to elevate a song, making him the go-to artist for creating memorable party songs.

He made his mark as a radio host, and that enthralled listeners thanks to his bold personality and deep knowledge of the hip-hop game. He hosted a radio show, cementing his impact in the music industry and it kept him well connected with fans around the world.

Missy herself posted her condolences to Fatman Scoop on X.

“Prayers for Fatman Scoop family for STRENGTH during this difficult time. Fatman Scoop VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades. Your impact is HUGE & will be NEVER forgotten.”
