Lil Nas X’s New Documentary Will Show The Journey Of His First Global Tour

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero will premiere on Max on January 27 at 8 pm. It made its world premiere during last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

The documentary follows the Grammy-winning rapper, who was born Montero Hill, in the 60 days while he performed his Long Live Montero Tour, after his debut album in 2021. In the diary film, Lil Nas X discusses his career and his position in the pop world as a Black and queer performer.

Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero is directed by Zac Manuel as well as Carlos Lopez Estrada, who is the Oscar-nominated filmmaker whose credits include Summertime, Raya, The Last Dragon and Blindspotting. Lopez also directed music videos for Katy Perry, Billie Eilish and Carly Rae Jepsen. Manuel’s directing credits are Alone, Buckjumping, America, Time, Nonstop, This Body and The Cut.

Lil Nas X’s hits include Montero (Call Me by Your Name), That’s What I Want, Industry Baby with Jack Harlow, Panini and Old Town Road with Billy Ray Cyrus, which spent 19 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as No. 1. It is the longest-running No. 1 song of all-time. Nas won two Grammys for that song; Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video.

Nas’ documentary is produced by Dave Sirulnick, Caryn Capotosto, Saul Levitz, Adam Leber, Gee Roberson, Adriana Arce and Hodo Musa, while executive produced by Meredith Bennett, Jon Kamen, Fran Scherma, Tom Mackay, Ron Perry and Krista Wegener.

According to Biography.com, Nas was born in 1999. He rose to prominence thanks to his 2021 hit, Old Town Road. This led to him creating his first album: Montero. The record has hits such as Industry Baby and Montero (Call Me By Your Name). Also on the album is the song Sun Goes Down, which analyzes how Nas dealt with being gay.

Nas as a young person growing up kept his head down and studied his favorite artist, Nicki Minaj. He would go on to enroll in the University of West Georgia to study computer science before dropping out to focus on music.
