Shaquille O'Neal was the 1st overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft. He went on to receive an MVP award, a Rookie of the Year award, 15 All-Star game selections, three All-Star Game MVP awards, and four NBA Title championships. But how did the NBA Hall of Famer make it to this legendary status?

HBO recently released the trailer for their upcoming four-part docu-series titled Shaq, which details the life and career of the multi-hyphenate basketball player and businessman.

We were live on the black carpet of the Atlanta premiere of the docu-series and spoke with the man himself.

Shaq shared why this was the perfect time to release his documentary.

I always thought I was a superhero. I couldn't tell you all everything while I was doing my work. So now that I'm not a superhero anymore, I'm retired. I'm older. Now, I'll tell you how I became a superhero, who inspired me, what I'm doing and how I did it.

The Hall of Famer also shares that he has instilled all of the lessons he learned from his father into his children.

It's called deja vu parenting. He always taught me, you have to earn everything you got. Don't come up short. You don't stop believing. Whatever you put your mind to, finish it.

Shaq's mother, Lucille O'Neal, Charles Barkley, Robert Alexander (director of Shaq) Mike Jackson, Egypt Sherrod and Brantlee Fields were also on the black carpet supporting their friend and colleague.

Lucille shared what she wants people to learn after watching the documentary.

It's been so long so the world probably thinks they know everything. But I want the world to know that he is a kind human being and very, very generous. That he has a heart for people, and every opportunity that he gets to share and give, that he's gonna continue to do that. And it's not a put on, it's not to impress you. That's who he is. That's the man that he is.

Barkley shared what he's most looking forward to from the documentary.

I think the main thing is probably the world can see some things behind the scenes. What a tremendous personality he is. What a tremendous businessman he is. I mean, he brings a lot to the table. I get lucky man. I get to work with this fool every week. But he is a tremendous person. He got a great heart. And the main thing is, he's a terrific businessman. And I'm lucky to work with him.

Charles, Mike, Egypt and Robert share their favorite Shaq products on the Black carpet of the Atlanta Premiere of HBO's "Shaq."
