So So Def Verzuz Bad Boy: Songs That Will Bring the Nostalgia

When the pandemic first hit, we didn’t know how we’d make it through. Being at home and having to isolate from the outside world had many at home bored out of their minds, so people came up with ways to entertain the masses through social media. One way we stayed entertained was thanks to super producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz who created a musical battle on social media titled Verzuz. The live show, introduced during the pandemic, had artists going hit for hit to claim the Verzuz throne. The event included artists such as Brandy vs. Monica, Jill Scott vs. Erykah Badu, Gucci Mane vs. Jeezy, John Legend vs. Alicia Keys and so many more.

Recently, Verzuz was in a legal battle with the company Triller, where Timbaland and Swizz Beatz filed a lawsuit seeking over $28 million in damages. Eventually, an agreement was reached and the case was settled. Now back and better, it is being reported that producers Sean “Diddy” Combs of Bad Boy Records and Jermaine Dupri of So So Def are gearing up to see which music mogul will come up on top.

Here are the songs we think will bring the nostalgia during the upcoming battle.

Bad Boy

It’s All About the Benjamins - Ft. Lil’ Kim, The Lox and Notorious B.I.G.

Debuted in 1996, this song was one of the most elite from this camp of artists. With fire versus from Lil’ Kim, The Lox, and B.I.G., it was no surprise this song climbed the Billboard Hip-Hop chart to No. 1.

Mo Money Mo Problems - Notorious B.I.G. ft. Puff Daddy and Mase

When this song came out in 1997, it was one of the hottest Bad Boy songs out! Not only did it rise to No. 1 on the Hot 100, but it was certified platinum as well. When you think of Bad Boy, I am sure that this song comes to mind. How old were you when you found out Kelly Price was the singer on the chorus?

I’ll Be Missing You - Puff Daddy ft. Faith Evans and 112

“It’s kind of hard with you not around, know you’re in heaven smiling down.” One of the most prolific lines in music history. When Notorious B.I.G. passed on, it was a blow to music fans across the globe. This song was No. 1 all over the country because not only did it honor B.I.G., but it resonated with losing a loved one for us all.

Crush on You - Lil’ Kim ft. Lil’ Cease

How many Lil’ Kim fans do we have out there? One of the most influential female hip-hop artists came into the game swinging with her smooth and sexy lyricism as Bad Boy’s queen of rap. This song with rapper Lil’ Cease is one of the best Bad Boy songs on their roster. After all, “we gon’ throw shade if we can’t get paid.”

Hypnotize - Notorious B.I.G.

The song that puts you in a daze. The song that hypnotizes you! This song was one of the last solo singles by the late rapper. With the heavy base and the fact that B.I.G. could spit those lyrics, it’s no surprise that this song hit No. 1. It’s one of the bangers by him that we’ll always remember.

So So Def

Oh I Think They Like Me (So So Def Remix) - Dem Franchize Boz ft. Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat and Bow Wow

When it comes to the south, you will dance! You will lean and rock! Dem Franchize Boyz came out of the ATL rocking the south in a major way. It’s no surprise that their So So Def hits charted on the Hot 100, Top 40, and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts. With Bow Wow, Da Brat, and JD on the mix, it made this one of ATL’s hottest tracks.

Jump - Kris Kross

When I was a kid, this song played everywhere! This dynamic hip-hop duo gained major success at only 12 and 13 years old. This song of course for them went No. 1 and was one of the first hits for JD as a songwriter. There is no way So So Def can do a Verzuz without this song.

Understanding - Xscape

Can Verzuz be done without So So Def’s first ladies of R&B? Not at all! Hitmakers Xscape were one of, if not the most talented on the label. This song from their debut album Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha was a vocal beast in its own and is noted as one of the best Xscape hits of all time.

My Boo- Ghost Town DJ’s

If you heard Ciara’s Body Party, then you know this song right here. This song is considered an ATL gem and is played all over the nation at every block party, wedding, gathering, you name it. This song will for sure get the Verzuz party started.

Damn! - YoungbloodZ

“Don’t start no stuff it won’t be no stuff!” Back in the 2000s, ATL was on fire. Hit after hit, dance after dance, and so much more. This song by YoungbloodZ is one of the heavy hitters of the 2000s decade and remains YoungBloodZ best hit to date!

As of now, no date has been set but we are for sure going to be on the look out.
