Your Guide to Becoming an Architect

An architect is someone who is responsible for the design and construction of buildings. They excel in science, art, and IT and they combine these to follow their career path. If this is something that appeals to you, here is a guide to becoming an architect.

Get A Degree

Most architectural companies require you to have a bachelor’s degree in architecture or a related subject. Furthermore, you can complement it with online study tools that provide study documents. For example, you can download these greenhouse effect answers because an architect must understand the science behind the environmental issue surrounding a building. Here you will learn about project management and the environment. To complete this course successfully, you will need to be good at art, science and IT. A Lenovo architects computer will make a great purchase as it contains the right tools to help you in your education.

Once you have completed your bachelor’s degree you can move on to the next step. However, many people go on to complete a master’s degree in architecture before moving on.

Get Some Work Experience

You will need to do a lot of work experience before you become eligible to apply for your license. You can do this through internship programs or by finding companies who will take on people with the right qualifications and give them further training. Most training programs last for three years, and this will give you some fantastic experience. Many states offer these opportunities through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and the American Institute of Architects, but check the criteria and program in your state as these can differ.

You will need to complete approximately 5,600 hours of training and work experience before you can take the qualification exam, so you need to be prepared to work hard and study hard in your own time.

Pass The Accreditation Exams

Accreditation consists of seven separate exams that test your skills and knowledge of architecture. You can either pass or fail these. If you pass them all you can then apply for your Architect License. If you fail any, you will need to retake them before you can apply for your license. All states require you to have passed this accreditation to become licensed.

Apply For a Job

Once you have qualified and received your license you can apply for jobs as an architect. It may be possible for you to remain in the company you completed your traineeship with as this will make the transition from trainee to architect simpler. Otherwise, it is time to update your resume and start applying for positions.

It may be possible for you to work in other states or even go abroad but you should remember that the legislation could be different in your new state or country so you may need to learn the legalities if you want to move away.

It takes about six years to go from high school graduation to being a fully qualified architect. However, if this is what you want to do and you think you will succeed in this career then it is certainly worth pursuing. It is an interesting and varied career, and many architects love their jobs.
