"In The Heights" Film Adaptation Heads to Theaters and HBO Max This Summer

Who could have imagined that we would witness a musical dance number inside of a bodega? The creators behind the hit Broadway musical In The Heights, that's who! Along with Director Jon M. Chu, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegria Hudes are ready to show the world why representation matters and why it is okay to dare to dream.

Premiering in theaters and on HBO Max on June 18th, In The Heights' new trailer shows that the film adaptation is ready to be the movie event of the year. The musical centers on a variety of characters living in the neighborhood of Washington Heights, on the northern tip of Manhattan. At the center of the show is Usnavi, a bodega owner who looks after the aging Cuban lady next door, pines for the gorgeous girl working in the neighboring beauty salon and dreams of winning the lottery and escaping to the shores of his native Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, Nina, a childhood friend of Usnavi's, has returned to the neighborhood from her first year at college with surprising news for her parents, who have spent their life savings on building a better life for their daughter. Ultimately, Usnavi and the residents of the close-knit neighborhood get a dose of what it means to be home.

With a stellar cast that includes, Anthony Ramos (Hamilton), Corey Hawkins (Straight Out Of Compton) and Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue), In The Heights, which was originally supposed to hit theaters last Summer, comes right when many may need it the most. A dazzling show-stopping Broadway show with the magic of Cho's visionary eye, serves up the right medicine after a year defining a new normal during the pandemic.
