Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry is “never going to marry,” so he claims. During his recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Perry spoke about his idea of love and why he does not see himself getting married. The 57-year-old entertainment mogul, who has never been married, said the financial and emotional consequences of divorce have influenced his decision.

According to Perry, he has watched people around him lose their wealth following divorce, which has made him wary of marriage.

“I’m never marrying. And it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know who is doing well went broke because of divorce,” he explained on the daytime talk show.

Unlike his characters in his hit films, such as the recently released Why Did I Get Married Again? who often represent stories of love, marriage, and family, Perry says his own future will not include walking down the aisle. His focus is now on fatherhood, slowing down, and enjoying the life he has built.

Why Tyler Perry Will Not Marry

Perry said his decision was not because he does not believe in love, but because he wants to protect what he has built over the years. With a career that has stood the test of time, Perry’s net worth lands him on the Forbes list year after year, at an estimated $1.4 billion to his name. The Madea actor has won multiple NAACP Awards, an honorary Emmy Award, and the Ultimate Icon Award from BET in 2019.

Perry also said that getting older has changed the way he views life, particularly his priorities.

He shares an 11-year-old son, Aman, with model and activist Gelila Bekele, and said he now wants to spend more time with his son and enjoy life.

“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in,” he said in an interview.

It hasn’t been a challenge for Perry to discuss his idea of marriage. In another recent interview, the Hollywood Walk of Fame recipient said that he hasn’t been on a date in 30 years. With a planned move to Puerto Rico and multiple projects in the works, Perry has his hands full for a while.
