Before his New York Fashion Week debut for his clothing brand, Vivet, Kai Cenat shared that fame is beginning to wear on him. Visiting The New York Times Popcast, the streamer spoke about his growing success beyond what he has spent most of his life doing.

Asked whether becoming successful has made him want more fame or less, Cenat said, “I love my privacy,” describing how normal moments now come with an audience. “I can’t even go to the airport without… I could be waking up in the morning, I’ll be in a grumpy mood and somebody’s recording me. It kind of gets annoying.”

Still, he was quick to note the upside of visibility. “I do appreciate how the more known you get, the more you can inspire more people.” As for whether he wants to keep climbing, Cenat seemed genuinely unsure, floating the idea that he might already be at the right level of fame, or that he may need to pull back given how intense things already feel. “I like just to be successful,” he said.

Cenat, who began his streaming career on Twitch in 2021, quickly rose to fame, attracting millions of views with his celebrity visits, antics, and conversations. Before his move to live streaming, Cenat began his content creation career on YouTube, uploading his first video in 2018. Since his start, the newly minted fashion designer has an estimated net worth of upwards of $45 million.

The New York City native made headlines at the top of the year when he announced that he would stop streaming to focus on his mental health and to learn luxury garment construction. Cenat went on to study sewing and clothing production under master tailors.

“I do appreciate the more known you get… you can inspire more people,” the 24-year-old says during the interview.

Cenat goes on to state he just wants to be “successful,” as opposed to reaching new levels of fame.

Cenat’s return to streaming this past Summer included the return of his popular Streamer University, where he continues to leverage his massive Gen Z and Millennial engagement to secure lucrative corporate endorsements. He famously became the first streamer to sign a major partnership deal with Nike and has locked in campaigns with global brands like McDonald’s, T-Mobile, and Crocs.
