Samuel L. Jackson is plotting a high-stakes heist in the first trailer for Just Play Dead, an upcoming crime thriller that pits a criminal mastermind against his scheming wife in a $30 million game of double-crosses.

In the film, Jackson stars as Jack Wolfe, a wealthy criminal mastermind cornered by federal authorities. To evade arrest, Jack devises a seemingly foolproof scheme: fake his own death, claim a massive $30 million insurance payout alongside his wife Nora (Eva Green), and frame her surfer lover, Chad, for the whole setup.

However, Nora has plans of her own. Suffocated by Jack’s controlling nature, she decides to make his fake death permanent, frame Chad anyway, and pocket the entire $30 million fortune for herself. Unbeknownst to Nora, Jack is already one step ahead, laying a deadly trap that turns the lovers against each other in a tropical standoff where no one can be trusted.

Directed by Martin Campbell from a screenplay by Dan Gordon, the film reunites Campbell with Green two decades after their work on Casino Royale. The cast also stars Eoin Macken, María Pedraza, and Jason Fernández.

Vertical will release Just Play Dead in select theaters on August 28, followed by a digital and on-demand release on September 1. Check out the trailer below.
