Tommy Davidson - The Varnell Hill Show

Nearly 30 years after audiences first met him, Varnell Hill is stepping back into the spotlight, and Paramount+ has just given us a first look at what he’s been up to.

The streamer unveiled first-look photos today for The Varnell Hill Show, a new half-hour workplace comedy starring Tommy Davidson as the beloved talk show host he first introduced on the iconic sitcom Martin. The eight-episode first season debuts globally with two episodes on Tuesday, September 1, followed by one new episode every Tuesday through October 13.

Set behind the scenes of a long-running late-night talk show, the series follows Varnell as he fights to stay relevant in an entertainment landscape that’s moved on without asking his permission.

Between network executives pushing to modernize the show, a chaotic writers’ room, a rotating cast of celebrity guests, family drama, and an ego that’s never once shrunk, Varnell finds out fast that holding a television empire together might be even harder than building one was in the first place.

Davidson stars and executive produces, leading an ensemble that includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson, and Chris Williams. The guest list is stacked too, with appearances from Ms. Pat, Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps, and Omarion, plus special appearances by Martin Lawrence himself.

The Varnell Hill Show premieres globally on September 1 on Paramount+.
