The DC Universe is continuing to grow its roster on the small screen. DC Studios is reportedly developing a brand-new live-action TV series centered around the brilliant superhero genius Mr. Terrific.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has been quietly tinkering away on the project as a spinoff following the character’s live-action debut in James Gunn’s Superman. While the series is still in its early stages of development, a major creative force is already attached to bring the tech wizard’s standalone adventures to life.
Allan Heinberg has been tapped to pen the pilot script for the series. Best known as the showrunner and writer for Netflix’s live-action adaptation of The Sandman, Heinberg is no stranger to handling massive comic book properties.
He previously co-wrote the script for DC’s 2017 Wonder Woman film and has an extensive television background with writing and producing credits on hits like Grey’s Anatomy and The O.C.. His experience blending deep character drama with high-stakes genre storytelling makes him a natural fit for the project.
Mr. Terrific, whose comic book alter-ego is Michael Holt, a crime-fighting multi-millionaire and technological wizard—was brought to life in the DCU by StartUp star Edi Gathegi. Gathegi is expected to reprise his role for the standalone series, continuing his multi-project trajectory within the newly minted cinematic universe.
Fans who loved seeing his signature T-Spheres and sharp tactical mind on the big screen can look forward to a much deeper dive into his backstory and solo missions.
While David Corenswet’s Superman was steered directly by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, it’s currently unclear how hands-on Gunn will be with the Mr. Terrific series.
No official release date, additional casting, or plot details have been locked down just yet.
