Stepping into the glittering loafers of the King of Pop is a monumental task for any actor. But when that music icon is your own uncle, the stakes reach an entirely different level. As fans eagerly await the April 2026 theatrical release of the highly anticipated biopic Michael, a brand-new behind-the-scenes featurette is giving us a raw, intimate look at Jaafar Jackson’s intense physical and emotional transformation.

From the jump, Jaafar understood the gravity of the role. “I knew how challenging this would be to take on playing Michael Jackson. And it was not easy,” he admits in the new clip. Nailing his uncle’s essence required absolute precision, a fact that both he and the filmmakers knew would make or break the project.

“Every move matters. Every detail matters,” Antoine Fuqua, the film’s director, explains. “You can’t just go through a Michael Jackson move casually.”

Earning the trust of the creative team, which included Michael’s real-life choreographers, Rich and Tone, was a hurdle of its own. When the choreographers initially questioned if Jaafar could truly execute the most iconic dance moves in history, the rising star simply asked for time to work.

“I love challenges, and I wanted to prove to myself, my family, and the filmmakers that I can do this,” he shared.

What followed was a brutal, relentless rehearsal schedule. Jaafar dove headfirst into the grind, practicing for hours upon hours just to perfect a single sequence. He pushed his body to its absolute limits, revealing that he would dance “until my feet will bleed or them go numb.”

On the mornings he woke up aching and contemplating a well-deserved break, it was his uncle’s legendary work ethic that pushed him forward.

“There’s so many times I would wake up sore, be like, ‘Should I go rehearse? Should I just take a break and let the body relax?'” he recalled. “Then the other part of my mind would be like, ‘No, what would Michael do? Let’s do it again.'”

That relentless dedication meant Jaafar never stopped dancing, rehearsing right up until the moment the cameras finally rolled.

The grueling physical toll culminated in a surreal moment of reflection. Standing in front of the mirror in full hair, makeup, and wardrobe right before hitting the stage to perform, the reality of his journey set in.

“I had a couple moments to myself just saying, like, ‘Wow.’ I’m really here. There’s no going back,” he shared. Ultimately, Jaafar’s goal is to give audiences a taste of the electrifying aura that made his uncle a global phenomenon. “It’s time to go out there and put on the best show ever. That is what I want the world to feel. Magic.”

If the passion in this behind-the-scenes footage is any indicator, Michael is gearing up to be a cinematic event that truly honors the legendary entertainer’s legacy.
