Sinners took home the Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, a relatively new category introduced in 2024 to honor films that not only deliver cinematic excellence but also dominate at the box office.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Sinners has been a force since its release. The Golden Globes win marks yet another milestone for the film, which has grossed over $600 million worldwide and sparked widespread critical acclaim.
Coogler kept it real in his speech, offering heartfelt gratitude not just to the team behind the camera, but to the fans in the seats.

“I just want to thank the audience for showing up,” he began. “This movie was made by hundreds of people. We don’t always… we work in the film business, wear tuxedos and look glammed out. It’s usually a grind. We’re wearing performance fishing gear and we’re in the swamps.”
Filmed in the heat and humidity of New Orleans, Sinners wasn’t just a creative challenge; it was a physical one, too. But for Coogler and his team, the promise of a theatrical release kept them going.
“It was an honor on this movie to know that it was getting a theatrical release,” he said. “We would remind people every day in the dark days of summer in New Orleans. We would say, ‘Hey, big movie. People are going to see this. Big theater.’ We didn’t know that that would show up. So we just want to say thank you that they did. It meant the world to us.”
With awards season in full swing and momentum building behind both Sinners and Coogler, who also earned his first-ever DGA nomination this month, the film’s recognition feels both timely and well-deserved.
