The Capitol Battle of the Bands (Capitol BOTB) is back, and this year, the celebration of HBCU pride and musical excellence is set to be bigger than ever.
On Sunday, September 28, SECU Stadium at the University of Maryland, College Park will come alive with the sound of nine elite HBCU marching bands, cultural showcases, and a community-wide celebration of Black excellence.
Leading the festivities will be Jabari Banks, the breakout star of Peacock’s Bel-Air and a rising music artist with his debut EP, Ultra.

This year’s lineup includes powerhouse performances from Hampton University, Howard University, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, Virginia State University, Bowie State University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina A&T University, and Winston-Salem State University.
Gates will open at 3:30 PM for Stadium Fest, a pre-show market featuring local vendors, small businesses, and sponsor activations. The main event kicks off at 5:00 PM, transforming SECU Stadium into a stage for one of the most dynamic celebrations of music and tradition in the region.
“The Capitol Battle of the Bands is more than just a show—it’s a movement that brings people together to celebrate the excellence of HBCU culture,” said Rodney Chambers, Executive Director of the Capitol BOTB. “Having a cultural voice like Jabari Banks on board, alongside incredible partners like IKEA, allows us to elevate this experience to new heights. This year will not only honor tradition but also set the stage for the future.”
Produced by High Stepping Nationals, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting music education and the performing arts in minority and inner-city schools, Capitol BOTB has been uplifting young artists since 2002. Through competitions, workshops, and community outreach, the organization has built a legacy of inspiring the next generation of performers and leaders.
