'The Vince Staples Show' Drops Trailer, Release Date

Vince Staples is coming to a Netflix near you.

On Wednesday, Netflix shared a new trailer for The Vince Staples Show, a scripted comedy series originally announced for the streamer in September of 2022, according to Complex. When it was originally reported, the series was a fictional story “loosely inspired by Staples’ life” and set in Long Beach, California.

“I am excited to partner with Netflix and Kenya Barris on The Vince Staples Show,” Staples said then. “This has been something I have been developing for some time and I am happy it’s coming to fruition.”

In 2022, executive producers on The Vince Staples Show were Staples and Barris with Ian Edleman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth and Calmatic. Edelman and Williams were listed as showrunners on the project. Both at one time worked together with Barris and Kid Cudi’s Entergalactic, which appeared on Netflix in 2022 as well.

Those who have followed Staples for the longest will notice Calmatic’s name from a previous, short iteration of The Vince Staples Show, which appeared on YouTube in 2019. In one short episode directed by Calmatic, Ray J made an appearance. Calmatic also directed Rap Sh!t, the White Men Can’t Jump reboot with Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road video, among more.

Also back in 2022, Staples was asked where the series was at when it came to progress. He acknowledged the situation he was in, too.

“I’m surrounded by great people who have a lot of great ideas—it’s a good situation to be in,” he said.

But now, it is confirmed that the show will indeed debut on February 15. Other featured on the five-episode satirical comedy are Vanessa Bell Calloway, Andrea Ellsworth, Nate Jones, Arturo Castro, Scott MacArthur, Bryan Greenberg and Myles Bullock.
