FX’s ‘Snowfall’ Spinoff Expands Its Ranks with Nine New Cast Members
The world of Snowfall is getting even bigger. FX has officially added nine new actors to the cast of its highly anticipated, currently untitled Snowfall spinoff.
Set in 1990s Los Angeles, shortly after the events of the original Snowfall series finale, the spinoff dives into the birth of the West Coast rap revolution. The show follows a recovering addict who strives to take hip-hop mainstream. Along the way, she has to navigate erupting street gang wars and ruthless corporate record labels eager to exploit the budding culture for their own financial gain.
The series is anchored by original Snowfall stars Gail Bean and Isaiah John, who are officially reprising their fan-favorite roles as Wanda and Leon Simmons.
Joining the series in recurring roles are acclaimed actors Mykelti Williamson, Nicki Micheaux, and Brandon Mychal Smith, along with Demetrius Grosse, Zaire Adams, Isidora Goreshter, Eric Balfour, Richard Portnow, and original Snowfall actor Quincy Chad.
The newly announced additions bring some serious acting chops to the gritty L.A. scene as several heavy hitters step into the Snowfall universe.
Veteran actor Williamson brings his seasoned presence to the spinoff; he will soon be seen in the Orion/Amazon MGM film Is God Is, hitting theaters May 15, and Season 2 of Apple TV+’s Dark Matter. Joining him is Micheaux, a three-time NAACP Image Award nominee who recently starred in the horror film Night Patrol alongside Jermaine Fowler and RJ Cyler.
Fans will recognize Smith from Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral and his unforgettable role as Sam Dresden in FX’s You’re the Worst. Fresh off his MCU debut as Eric Williams in Marvel’s Wonder Man, Grosse has built a formidable career playing memorable characters in hits like Banshee, Justified, and Fear the Walking Dead, as well as blockbuster films such as Straight Outta Compton and 13 Hours.
Also stepping into the neighborhood is Quincy Chad, who is returning to his Snowfall roots by officially reprising his role as “Big Deon” from the original hit drama. Rounding out the impressive new slate of cast members are Goreshter (Shameless), Adams (Broadway’s The Lion King), Balfour (The Offer), and Portnow (EZ Street).
Williamson, Micheaux, Smith, and the rest of the new crew will be joining a previously announced lineup of rising stars. Asante Blackk (This Is Us, When They See Us), Peyton Alex Smith (All American: Homecoming), and musician/actor Simmie Sims III (also known as Buddy) have already been confirmed to be joining the pilot as series regulars.
With Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hip Hop Uncovered) writing and executive producing alongside original Snowfall showrunner Dave Andron, this spinoff is shaping up to be an authentic, heavy-hitting continuation of the franchise.
