A Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds documentary is officially on the way.

According to Deadline, Black-ish creator Kenya Barris has signed on to produce the upcoming feature, with Emmy-nominated filmmaker Chris Moukarbel attached to direct.

The project promises a deep look at Babyface’s life and legacy from his early beginnings in Indianapolis to becoming one of the most prolific hitmakers in music history.

The film will feature new interviews, commentary from longtime collaborators, and never-before-seen footage from Babyface’s personal archive. It will also offer an inside look at rehearsals for his upcoming residency at the Palms in Las Vegas.

“I’ve often wondered how an unassuming kid from Indianapolis got to where he is today, working with artists and achieving dreams I could’ve never imagined when I first started,” Babyface said in a statement. “This documentary is giving me a chance to go down memory lane with a fine-tooth comb, reexamining the highs and lows of my life and career. I’m discovering where all the songs really came from — and perhaps just as important, the how and why.”

For Barris, the goal is to show the man behind the music. “I hope this film gives people a glimpse into the man behind the musical genius, who just might be one of the funniest motherf***ers I’ve ever met,” he shared.

Over his celebrated career, Babyface has won 13 Grammy Awards (including four for Producer of the Year), co-founded LaFace Records alongside L.A. Reid, and penned or produced some of the most iconic records of all time, from Whitney Houston’s I’m Your Baby Tonight to Toni Braxton’s Un-Break My Heart, Madonna’s Take a Bow, and SZA’s Snooze.

Now, with this new documentary, fans will finally get to see how it all came together, the hits, the heartbreaks, and the harmony that made Babyface a legend.
