Netflix is teaming up with Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) for its latest political thriller film. Titled A House of Dynamite, the film stars Idris Elba and Anthony Ramos in what looks like a gripping doomsday story set against the backdrop of geopolitical chaos.
The newly revealed synopsis sets the stage: “When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.”
For her first feature in eight years, Bigelow has assembled a powerhouse ensemble that rivals any of this year’s biggest releases. Alongside Elba and Ramos, the cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke.
A House of Dynamite received positive reviews at the Venice Film Festival, building anticipation before its wide release. The movie will get a limited theatrical run before hitting Netflix globally on October 24, 2025.
Bigelow’s return to filmmaking is an event in itself. With The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, she redefined modern war and political thrillers. Now, with A House of Dynamite, she’s stepping back into a world of high-stakes conflict, this time layered with contemporary fears about global instability and technological warfare.
With a script from Noah Oppenheim (Zero Day, Jackie), and Bigelow back in the director’s chair, A House of Dynamite looks ready to ignite both theaters and living rooms this fall.
Catch it in select theaters and on Netflix starting October 24, 2025.
