Mortal Kombat fans, it’s time to gear up! Warner Bros. just dropped the official trailer for Mortal Kombat II, following yesterday’s teaser that had the internet (well, me) in an uproar. And let’s just say, the heat is officially back.

The sequel to the 2021 video game adaptation will center on Karl Urban as B-list movie star Johnny Cage, who learns what it’s like to fight for real, off the movie set, and in real life. Mehcad Brooks also returns as Jax, metal arms and all.

Brooks is suiting up again as Earthrealm’s powerhouse fighter. After surviving the chaos of the first film (and delivering one of the most brutal finishing moves in franchise history), Jax is back in action, ready to throw hands and probably rip some off too.

Unlike the first film, which centered around original character Cole Young, Mortal Kombat II is leaning fully into the tournament that defines the franchise. And that means the stakes are higher, the fights are bloodier, and the characters? Way more familiar to fans of the source material.

Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, recently shared that the sequel will keep a “scoreboard” throughout the film, tracking wins and losses like a true tournament, and giving each fight real consequences. So expect some heavy hitters to fall.

Alongside Brooks, other returning cast members include Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), and Tadanobu Asano (Raiden). And yes—somehow, even Kano and Kung Lao are back, despite their not-so-survivable endings in the first film. Looks like revenants (the undead versions of fallen warriors) are making their live-action debut.

Newcomers include Adeline Rudolph as Kitana and Martyn Ford as the towering Shao Kahn. With a fresh lineup and a tournament-first storyline, Mortal Kombat II looks like it’s coming for blood—literally.

Mortal Kombat II hits theaters October 24.
