As we all eagerly await what’s next for Black Panther, the internet has been buzzing with one name: Damson Idris.

While promoting F1 The Movie, the rising Hollywood heavyweight was asked on Today if he’s been in talks with Marvel Studios about stepping into the iconic Black Panther suit for the upcoming third installment. His answer? Classic Damson—smooth, playful, and just cryptic enough to keep us guessing.

“Have you talked to Marvel about Black Panther?” host Craig Melvin asked. With a sly smile, Idris replied, “Yes… no.”

Naturally, Melvin jumped on the response. “That means yes,” he said. Damson just shrugged and teased, “It could mean no.”

But when it came to the real question—would he take the role if offered?—the British-Nigerian actor didn’t hesitate. “Yes,” he said.

The possibility of Idris joining the MCU has been floated by fans for a while, especially following the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who originated the role of T’Challa.

Boseman’s portrayal became a cultural landmark, and any successor would be stepping into massive shoes. Marvel chose not to recast T’Challa for Wakanda Forever, but rumors have continued to swirl about new characters and expanded storylines in the Wakandan universe.

While nothing has been confirmed (yet), Idris certainly has the star power, charisma, and range to hold his own in the MCU.

And let’s be honest, Marvel loves a bit of mystery. With Black Panther 3 quietly in development under Ryan Coogler, anything could happen.

So will Damson Idris become the next protector of Wakanda? For now, he’s keeping it close to the vest.
