More than two decades after Friday After Next hit theaters, fans of Ice Cube’s Friday franchise finally have something to celebrate. It’s official — Last Friday is happening.

The long-rumored fourth installment of the iconic comedy series is now in development at Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema, with Ice Cube set to return both behind and in front of the camera. According to New Line president and CCO Richard Brener, a deal has been reached with Ice Cube to write and star in Last Friday.

The project marks a full-circle moment for Cube, who launched the Friday saga in 1995 alongside Chris Tucker. The original film was followed by Next Friday in 2000 and Friday After Next in 2002.

Speaking with Flavor Flav in a June 2024 interview on SiriusXM’s Flavor of the Week, Cube hinted that the film was finally gaining traction.

“They have new leadership: my man Mike De Luca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first Friday and Players Club and All About the Benjamins,” Cube said. “Mike De Luca was there.”

Now, with De Luca and Pamela Abdy leading the studio’s film division, Cube’s vision for Last Friday is back on track — this time with the full support of Warner Bros. and New Line, the very studios where the saga first began.

Though details about the plot remain under wraps, Last Friday is expected to bring Cube’s character, Craig, back to the neighborhood that started it all. With fans already speculating about which characters will return — and whether Chris Tucker’s iconic Smokey will finally reappear.

No release date has been announced yet, but one thing’s clear — Friday is about to be funny again.
