The Every Color Matters Cancer Awareness Foundation has announced a new scholarship initiative to provide financial support to students whose parents or guardians are currently battling cancer.

The ECM Scholarship Initiative is a natural extension of the foundation’s commitment to families affected by cancer. It provides hope and opportunity to young people facing some of life’s toughest challenges.

Beginning in 2025, the organization will award at least one $1,000 scholarship annually to a qualifying high school senior or graduate to assist with tuition at a two- or four-year college, trade school, or technical program. The application period will open on April 1 and close on April 30, with submissions accepted through EveryColorMatters.com.

“Cancer does not discriminate based on color, race, religion, or creed—neither can we,” said Barney Jackson, founder of Every Color Matters. “Every Color Matters is a labor of love and hope, and this scholarship is an opportunity for us to plant seeds of success and healing in the lives of young people navigating enormous challenges.”

The ECM Scholarship Fund is especially meaningful for students whose dreams of higher education are often sidelined by the emotional and financial strain of caring for a sick parent. With this initiative, ECM not only lightens the burden but also sends a powerful message of support: that no one has to face this journey alone.

This announcement comes as part of the foundation’s broader mission and will be highlighted at the upcoming 8th Annual Every Color Matters Gala, set to take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.

Titled United in Hope, Empowered by Action, the gala will serve as both a celebration and a call to action, bringing together cancer survivors, community leaders, and supporters to raise crucial funds for ECM’s programs.

Hosted by legendary journalist and breast cancer survivor Monica Kaufman-Pearson, the evening will include a red carpet cocktail reception, plated dinner, live music, and a tribute to those whose courage and resilience continue to inspire.

Fox 5’s Jonathan Stacey and producer Quinae Ford will co-host the red carpet experience, welcoming guests and honorees with warmth and excitement.

Founded by Atlanta native Barney Jackson, Every Color Matters was born from personal tragedy and a desire to uplift others. Jackson, having lost multiple family members and a beloved pastor to cancer, launched ECM to provide direct support and resources to families dealing with the disease.

The organization’s work now includes year-round educational outreach, financial assistance for those in treatment, and special programs such as the Home for the Holidays initiative and a community 5K run/walk.
