Deion Sanders Jr. Reveals Travis Hunter Jr. Is Covering NIL Deals for 10-15 of His Teammates

Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter Jr. is not only redefining excellence on the football field but also setting a new benchmark for leadership and generosity

While many elite college players take full advantage of lucrative Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, Hunter has chosen a different path: he takes no money for himself from the University of Colorado’s NIL collective. Instead, he uses his resources to support his teammates.

Deion Sanders Jr., speaking on the Zero2SixtyPod, shared how Hunter invests in his team. “You know he [Travis Hunter Jr.] receives no NIL from the collective? He’s one of the biggest donors to the collective,” Sanders said. “He’s paying at least 10-15 guys’ NILs on the team.”

Introduced in 2021, NIL allows college athletes to profit from their personal brands through endorsements, sponsorships, and other deals, ending decades of restrictions. NIL collectives, often funded by boosters, alumni, and fans, pool money to help athletes receive compensation while supporting team needs. These funds can be distributed among players for a more balanced and inclusive approach to compensation.

For most star athletes, NIL offers can be very lucrative. However, Hunter has chosen to forgo personal earnings from Colorado’s collective, instead, he donates from his endorsement deals to the collective.

Hunter’s generosity extends beyond NIL contributions. When he was nominated for the Heisman Trophy, Hunter personally covered the costs to fly over 50 teammates and staff members to the ceremony. For him, the honor wasn’t just an individual achievement; it was a moment to be shared with the people who helped him succeed.
