‘The Best Man’ Turns 25: 7 Facts About The Classic Film

The Best Man is a classic and truly set a standard for portraying Black professionals on screen.

The Best Man

The Malcolm D. Lee-directed film was one of the few romantic dramedies at that time that focused on Black love.

For many, The Best Man was a film about aspiration—whether it be the friendships possible in your adult years or the successful careers you could have. It was a beautiful film where its Black male characters were not portrayed as broke, dealing drugs, or in prison.

The Best Man became a hit at the box office, grossing $35 million on a $6 million budget.

As we celebrate its 25th anniversary, here are seven facts you might not know about this beloved classic.
