Pharrell Tells His Life’s Story With LEGOs In New Biopic ‘Piece By Piece’

Pharrell Williams is doing what he does best, giving us a new perspective on how to look at the world. Usually, he does this through music, but with the announcement of his biopic, Piece By Piece, Williams takes us on an animated journey of his life.

The trailer starts with a simple premise, “You know what would be cool is if we told my story through LEGO pieces,” LEGO-fied Pharrell tells the movie’s director, Morgan Neville, who responds with “Seriously?”

Pharrell replies, “Just be open.”

Although it seemed like a gimmick at first, using LEGOs is a crucial piece of storytelling. When interviewed by Variety, Williams explained how he was resistant to the idea of creating a biopic until he heard, “You can do it any way you want.” That’s when the pieces started falling into place.

The freedom that the LEGOs presented allowed Williams to achieve his goal of creating an inspiring movie for everyone to see not just nostalgic fans.

“We wanted it to be a medium for anyone that just wanted to hear a good, aspirational, inspiring story told vividly, in a way that felt like it could apply to them personally,” he explains. “That they’d realize that at seven years old or 77 years old, they could wake up tomorrow and go tell their story, piece by piece.”

As the movie is set to hit theaters on October 11, we’ve been introduced to the LEGO-fied cast of Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and many more.
