Donald Glover Gears Up For His Return To Music With New Childish Album

A man of many talents Donald Glover also known as rapper Childish Gambino hinted at new music this year as he told TMZ while in New York recently. Glover, who turns forty-one later this year, stated that the project he is working on right now is another album that fans are more than eager to hear.

Childish Gambino has had quite the longevity most rappers only dream of as he’s been in the game now for more than 15 years, dating back to 2008 when he dropped his first mixtape Sick Boi. It was followed by his sophomore mixtape Poindexter, which displayed a combination of both smart and goofy elements that pertained to the rapper.

Having more than a dozen mixtapes along with four studio albums, it appears that Childish Gambino is here to stay a little while longer and new music is a sure way to put those “retirement” plans on pause.

In 2020, Glover released the haymaker track “This Is America, which boldly touched on racial violence, systematic racism, and oppression in the United States and the video matched every lyric of the song. The song even topped the Billboard Hot 100, while becoming his only No.1 single to date.

Glover who also starred in the hit show Atlanta, wants his latest music release to go in a different direction as he described his character in Atlanta as being a punk.

“Being punk just always felt good to me and we always looked at Atlanta as a punk show and I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore,” he said. In 2022, Glover was featured on Latto's single Sunshine with Lil Wayne. With clever metaphors throughout the track, it was clear that Childish Gambino had officially returned to form.

In 2023, Glover revealed that he was indeed making new music and that he had been spending a lot of time in the studio. He even went on to say that he has been loving the process and having fun while doing it.

Glover is taking his time with his latest project and says that while it's easy to make a bunch of music he wants there to be that component of natural functionality where everything just flows together.

Let’s see if the rapper turned actor, or should I say “actor now rapper” still has some gas left in the tank as gears up for new music in 2024!
