Ciara and Russell Wilson Meld Fashion, Philanthropy and Sustainability with the House of LR&C

Ciara and Russell Wilson are known as one of the most stylish couples in entertainment. Often dressed in designers such as Tom Ford and Givenchy, their impact has been felt across the fashion industry, specifically with Ciara signing to IMG Models and serving as “the face” of several fashion houses over the years. As such, they have recently decided to take their love of fashion to the next level by launching their own fashion brand, The House of LR&C.

The House of LR&C, which will eventually encompass multiple lines, blends the Wilson’s love of fashion with their passion for philanthropy. The brand’s first label, Human Nation, is a sustainable line of streetwear products and unlike other celebrity fashion lines, falls within a price point most of their fans can afford. In addition to its accessibility, sales directly impact people in need, with three percent of profits going toward the couples Why Not You Foundation. Founded in 2014, Why Not You supports causes geared toward child poverty, as well as children’s education and health. “It’s really about how we can take sports, fashion, music, and democratize them to create opportunities for next generation,” Russell stated during an interview about the new brand.

Human Nation reflects the streetwear aesthetic one can trace back to the beginning of Ciara’s music career (“Goodies” video anyone) and is a vibe the couple regularly incorporates into many of their non-black ties looks. Along with philanthropy, inclusivity has been very important to the couple when thinking about their customer and Human Nation clothes tend to be gender-neutral and made in a wide array of sizes. While Russell is an equal contributor to the brand, it is undoubtedly Ciara who is responsible for the creative direction of the clothing items themselves, and as it was her who orchestrated Russell’s own fashion upgrade when they began dating, this has proven to be the best move.

Despite deep involvement, the Wilsons did not implement this project on their own. Christine Day, a leader in the fashion industry for many years, partnered with Ciara and Russell to bring The House of LR&C to life. One of the most important business decisions they faced was figuring out how to make Human Nation affordable while creating the pieces sustainably. To address this, Human Nation clothing and packaging have been made with eco-friendly, recycled, and/or recyclable materials. While relaxed items like sweatshirts and loose-fitting outerwear are the brand’s focus, for now, the Wilsons say they definitely plan to expand their offerings in the future.
