Five Black Accessories Designers You Need to Know

Although the fashion industry continues to struggle with its diversity problem, Black designers are beginning to see increased prominence in the field, including the world of shoes and accessories. With an incredibly slimmed-down fashion calendar this year, it is important to highlight talented Black designers creating the items that help bring our outfits to life.

Designer and model Armando Cabral's eponymous label features a range of shoe styles including boots, derby's, loafers and sneakers. His footwear features clean, classic silhouettes, mainly in neutral colors that can serve as staples in any man's wardrobe.


Casely-Hayford

British-based designer Charlie Casely-Hayford has risen to the top of the fashion ladder after starting the brand Casely-Hayford with his late father Joe. In addition to mens and womenswear, Casely-Hayford also creates stylish accessories, including nylon bags and croc-embossed lace-ups that will lift any drab outfit.

Founded by Rich Taylor in 2014, Harrison-Blake is a family business that make custom suits and shoes for men. The brand also offers a necktie-line and a wide range of accessories including pocket squares, socks and jewelry to round out your wardrobe.


Johnny Nelson

Johnny Nelson is a jewelry designer based in New York City who creates bold necklaces and earrings for both male and female clients. However, he is best known for his multi-finger gold rings, often featuring faces of significant black people from history and pop culture.

Telfar Clemons is definitely one of the rising stars in the fashion industry. In addition to the clothing line under his brand Telfar, Clemons also creates accessories, including his highly sought after durags which have graced the heads of many celebrities. He was also recently named the Council of Fashion Designers of America's accessories designer of the year.
