Mahershala Ali, Giancarlo Esposito, and Director Bassam Tariq Premiere 'Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother' at TIFF

The Toronto International Film Festival played host to one of the most anticipated world premieres of the festival season as writer-director Bassam Tariq joined a star-studded cast, including two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, Giancarlo Esposito, John Cho, Adia, Abubakr Ali, and Laith Nakli, to debut their wild new action thriller, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.

Described as an audaciously inventive, Texas-set thriller, the film examines the razor-thin line between religious devotion and righteous bloodshed. Its title directly references a famous Islamic hadith emphasizing the profound honor and reverence owed to mothers.

At the center of the film is Latif, played by Ali, a devout Muslim and loving family man who also happens to operate as a high-level contract killer. Latif lives by a strict personal code: he never uses firearms, and he exclusively accepts targets that the world would be genuinely better off without. However, after his beloved wife passes away, Latif resolves to leave his bloodstained past behind and dedicate his life entirely to raising his three young children.

Retirement proves nearly impossible. Struggling with the daily realities of fatherhood, including hunting down breast milk for his infant daughter, Latif tries to steer clear of a rapidly escalating feud between his longtime employer, Mike, played by Nakli, and a ruthless cowboy named Haun Yoon, played by Cho. But as his past catches up to him, Latif is forced into a minefield of viciousness and fanaticism, compelling him to confront his own moral hypocrisies in order to protect his family.

The film has already generated significant buzz following its festival bow, with critics praising Ali’s central performance as a delicate balance of terrifying menace and deep paternal grace. Supported by heavyweights like Esposito and Cho,

Following its festival launch, moviegoers won’t have to wait long to catch the action on the big screen, with the film opening in select theaters on September 25, ahead of a nationwide expansion in October.
