Paramount+ has officially pulled back the curtain on the highly anticipated second season of its breakout, critically acclaimed dark comedy Diarra From Detroit. Arriving two years after its first season, the eight-episode sophomore season is locked in for a global debut on Wednesday, July 29.

The rollout kicks off with a two-episode premiere, followed by weekly installments dropping every Wednesday through September 9.

Created, written, and executive produced by award-winning multi-hyphenate Diarra Kilpatrick, who also stars as the delightfully chaotic lead, season two finds Diarra Brickland attempting to have a peaceful, drama-free “hot girl summer.” Naturally, that plan crashes and burns immediately.

What begins as a seemingly minor mission to recover some furniture quickly spirals out of control. Before she knows it, Diarra is thrust directly into a triple homicide investigation, a citywide treasure hunt, and a journey deep into Detroit’s criminal underbelly.

While she struggles to sort out her famously messy relationship status, our favorite amateur P.I. somehow finds herself going undercover with a secret society, starring in a Tubi movie, chasing local urban legends, dodging active gang warfare, and unearthing decades-old secrets buried right beneath the city. Because of course she does.

Returning alongside Kilpatrick to anchor the madness are series regulars DomiNque Perry, Bryan Terrell Clark, and Jon Chaffin. The main cast welcomes the return of Shannon Wallace, Harry Lennix, and acting royalty Phylicia Rashad.

This season’s guest star lineup reads like an award show green room, featuring Morris Chestnut and Cliff “Method Man” Smith, alongside Glynn Turman and Bokeem Woodbine. The stellar roster also includes appearances from Amber Riley and Lil Rel Howery, as well as Lovie Simone and Shoniqua Shandai. Rounding out the ensemble are Nicco Annan and Jude Demorest, alongside local Detroit hip-hop favorites Skilla Baby and Icewear Vezzo.

Behind the scenes, Kilpatrick continues her powerhouse creative partnership with executive producer Kenya Barris and showrunner Miles Orion Feldsott, under the production banners of BET Studios and Khalabo Ink Society.

The return of Shannon Wallace is highly anticipated by fans, especially following his candid reflections with The Quintessential Gentleman on his journey through the industry. Wallace plays Chris, the elusive man whose disappearance famously drives the entire mystery of the first season.

Recalling his unconventional casting story, Wallace revealed that after his initial audition for Morris Chestnut’s character, he underwent a chemistry test with Kilpatrick. That was when producers threw him a curveball: they gave him just 20 minutes to learn an entirely new character. He nailed it on the spot, booking the role of Chris. Because his character was missing for most of the first season, Wallace faced a unique creative hurdle.

“I have to now make my choices and my presence felt in the times that I’m not there,” he explained. “My name was on the tip of their tongues, but I just always wanted to be felt. And that became a challenge.”

The experience also gave him a front-row seat to Kilpatrick’s brilliance as a multi-hyphenate. Working almost exclusively with her as a scene partner in season one, Wallace watched her effortlessly juggle being the show’s star, writer, and executive producer. “She has a sophistication about her that is so admirable. It’s alluring. It’s brilliant,” he praised, calling her his “creative North Star.”

Heading into Season 2, Wallace is thrilled to explore Chris more deeply, while jokingly celebrating his own character’s survival. “This was also the first time in my career that I had been back for a second season… in almost all of my projects I’ve been killed,” he laughed. With a solid foundation already laid, he is ready to expand on the Detroit swagger and backstory that fans loved.
