Morris Brown College has reached a milestone in its ongoing journey, as its accreditation has been reaffirmed through 2031 by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). The decision reflects continued confidence in the Atlanta-based university and ensures that it can maintain recognized degree programs and access to federal financial aid, both critical to its long-term stability.
TRACS board of trustees approved the accreditation reaffirmation on Monday, April 27, for the private historically Black college. For students, faculty, and alumni, the extension highlights institutional progress and reinforces the credibility of an institution that has fought to reestablish itself in higher education. Accreditation, a key measure of academic quality and accountability, which will help secure funding and partnerships.
“Through our unwavering faith in God, the dedication and excellence of our faculty and staff, the steadfast support of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, our committed alumni, and the resilience of the Morris Brown spirit, we have made history again,” said Morris Brown College President Dr. Kevin James, as reported by The Atlanta Inquirer.
Dr. Kevin James, the 19th President of Morris Brown College, restored the institution’s accreditation in 2022, after having nearly 20 years of loss of status. Morris Brown College lost its accreditation in 2002 following financial difficulties and governance issues, a setback that led to a decline in enrollment and limited access to federal aid.
James also announced on his social media about the reaccreditation through TRACS, expressing his gratitude and nonstop commitment to the institution. In James’ caption, he included #TheResurgence and #TheHardReset2. Both hashtags symbolize the campaign of James’ goal to restore accreditation to Morris Brown College, but specifically after his own reinstatement after being fired in January 2026.
Under Dr. James’ leadership, Morris Brown College is reflecting progress and stability in its enrollment, academics, finances and administrative operations. Continued accreditation ensures that the institution can maintain access to federal financial aid programs, a key factor in affordability and enrollment.
“This reaffirmation of accreditation is a powerful validation of the board’s commitment to sound governance, fiscal stewardship and institutional integrity,” said Bishop Michael Mitchell, chairman of the Morris Brown College Board of Trustees.
