Hollywood’s winning streak with video game adaptations shows no signs of slowing down. The latest massive gaming franchise gearing up for the big screen is Electronic Arts’ (EA) blockbuster first-person shooter, Battlefield. And it is bringing some serious A-list talent along for the ride.
Michael B. Jordan is currently attached to produce a feature film adaptation of the hit game, with the exciting possibility that he will also step in to star.
Jordan is not the only major name attached to the project. Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, best known for his phenomenal, high-octane work on the Mission: Impossible franchise, is officially on board to write, direct, and produce the feature. EA will also serve as a producer, ensuring the adaptation stays true to its gaming roots.
While Jordan is currently only confirmed in a producing capacity, fans are already buzzing about the prospect of him stepping in front of the camera to lead the film. However, it is still too early in the development process to confirm his on-screen involvement officially.
As of right now, the plot details for the Battlefield movie are being kept strictly under wraps.
This leaves plenty of room for speculation, especially given the expansive history of the video game franchise. Since launching in 2002 with Battlefield 1942, the series has become famous for its massive, chaotic multiplayer warfare across land, air, and sea.
Because the games have explored a wide range of historical and futuristic settings, spanning from both World Wars and the Vietnam War to near-future conflicts, the creative team has a massive sandbox to play in.
Over its lifetime, the Battlefield franchise has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, cementing its status as an absolute titan in the gaming industry.
With McQuarrie’s knack for directing top-tier action and Jordan’s proven track record of delivering compelling projects, this adaptation is already shaping up to be a massive theatrical event.
