First Look at ‘Running Point’ Season 2: Jay Ellis, Toby Sandeman, and the LA Waves Are Ready to Play

Netflix just dropped the highly anticipated first look at Season 2 of its hit basketball comedy Running Point. Returning to our screens on April 23, the Mindy Kaling-produced series gives a fresh playbook of boardroom drama, messy romances, and relentless on-court chaos.

While Kate Hudson returns to lead the charge as the determined LA Waves president, Isla Gordon, the newly released photos and season details include two of the show’s heaviest hitters: Jay Ellis and Toby Sandeman.

For fans of the series, Ellis’s return as Head Coach Jay Brown is a massive focal point for Season 2. If you recall the fiery Season 1 finale, Isla and Jay shared a long-awaited, steamy kiss following a heartbreaking championship loss. However, with Jay supposedly headed to coach in Boston to be closer to family, and Isla fresh out of a broken engagement with Lev (Max Greenfield), their relationship status is messier than a fourth-quarter blowout.

The new season will explore how these two navigate their undeniable chemistry while managing the immense pressure of leading a professional sports empire.

Meanwhile, holding things down on the hardwood is Toby Sandeman, who returns as Marcus Winfield, the veteran star player of the Waves. Sandeman brings a necessary grounding energy to the locker room, but Season 2 ensures that he and the rest of the team, including the live-wire Travis Bugg (Chet Hanks), won’t be without their own share of drama.

Between locker room politics, navigating inflated egos, and the introduction of a new pretty-boy point guard named Tommy White (Jake Picking), Marcus will have his hands full trying to keep the Waves unified and focused on a championship ring.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Running Point without some serious family dysfunction. Isla thought she had finally secured her spot at the head of the table and stepped out of her family’s shadow. However, her brother Cam (Justin Theroux) has bribed his way out of rehab and is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to reclaim his throne as team president. Every misstep Isla makes on or off the court is now potential ammunition for Cam, forcing her to rethink the entire playbook that got her the job in the first place.

Adding to the chaos is a stacked roster of returning favorites like Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, and Brenda Song, plus a lineup of new guest stars. Comedy legend Ray Romano joins the fray as Coach Norm, alongside Ken Marino, Blake Anderson, Tommy Dewey, and Richa Moorjani.

Mark your calendars, the LA Waves officially return to Netflix on April 23!
