New York Jets cornerback and special teams player Kris Boyd is recovering in the hospital after being shot early Monday morning in Manhattan.
According to the NYPD, officers responded to a call around 2:06 a.m. outside Sei Less, a popular Midtown restaurant and bar. Boyd, 28, was found with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Police have released surveillance photos of the suspected shooter, described as a man with a medium complexion, last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multicolored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag.
As of Monday evening, the suspect had not been publicly identified.
Back at Jets practice, players struggled to balance preparation with concern for their teammate. Defensive end Harrison Phillips told reporters that several teammates were able to connect with Boyd or his family.
“I just know there’s been a lot of answered prayers,” Phillips said. “It’s a blessing to know that he’s in stable condition, surrounded by his family with a lot of support around him. From where the news was originally reported, there was a lot of panic and emotion. Not to lighten the situation, but I think we’re a little more grateful knowing he’s in stable condition now.”
Tight end Jeremy Ruckert called the moment “devastating.”
“So it’s time for us to come together,” Ruckert said. “Prayers for him and his family. Hopefully, everything will end up being all right.”
Boyd, who previously played for the Minnesota Vikings before joining the Jets. The organization has not yet released an official statement, but is reportedly in close contact with Boyd’s family.
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue their search for the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NYPD.
