Jeremy Pope is back flexing his creative chops.
Pope, widely known for his role as Archie Coleman in the Netflix series Hollywood, released new music just in time for “New Music Fridays!”
If you thought Pope was only creating magic on screen, you should check his resume. The versatile talent was on Broadway before heading to Hollywood. He even received Tony Award nominations for his performances in Choir Boy and Ain’t Too Proud to Beg. He has also been releasing music for years with singles including Feels So Good, Worth A Million and a rendition of Earth, Wind and Fire‘s September, among others.
Now, the Orlando, Florida native is preparing to release his upcoming project, which took him three and a half years to develop he shared on Instagram. “I took the time and space I needed to explore my sound as an independent artist. 3 1/2 years of working on this project. Doing anything on your own takes a different kind of discipline and practice. Being your own champion & resource. I’ve been writing and producing music since I was 13, but putting together a complete body of music that might reflect the whole and broken pieces that are a part of me now was a different kind of challenge,” Pope shared about his experiences and the intensity of his solo venture into music.
Pope debuted two singles last night, U, Lost and What I Gotta Do. “I felt it was important to release the two records at the same time so people can recognize I’m not here just to drop singles, but to tell a story if I can,” Pope shared about releasing two songs simultaneously.
There is still no word on when the full body of work will be released but Pope described the project as an “intimate exploration of what happens in the mind and in good heart. What happens in spirit and in truth.” He sees his music as a universal language that can connect with listeners on a profound level. “We all have the right to love. The right to get it wrong, then right, then wrong again. We all have the right to question our purpose,” he said.
For independent artists and filmmakers, Pope has words of encouragement: “It doesn’t always take a studio. It takes spirit.” His artistic journey proves the resilience and creativity needed to create impactful art outside traditional systems.
