This past weekend I had the opportunity to accompany a client to Nashville,TN on the first leg of his promotional tour for his upcoming project. When in a new city, the best thing to do is see the city, be the city and taste the city and I did just that. First stop was the Whiskey Kitchen and then Prince’s Hot Chicken where I met Miss Irene and her cakes/pies.Take a look into my day in Nashville. This was the first stop of the day was Whiskey Kitchen (Popular watering hole with warm-wood decor, a menu of tavern grub & a global selection of whiskeys) .Located in an area of town known as “The Gulch” , Whiskey Kitchen is a location fit for a good time. I personally hoped for warmer weather so we would have enjoyed the outside but the inside was just a good. The Saturday Morning/Afternoon I visited, the W.K. was nice and packed. A Nice mixture of people and an even better selection of Whiskey. Now onto the drink. This by far is one of the best Whiskey Sours I have ever tasted and the presentation made it even better. I had the opportunity to sample the Barbecue chicken with a side of Tennessee Whiskey Yam Fries The taste was great and it also soaked up the Whiskey and send me on my day…lol . If you are ever in Nashville , Make sure to visit Whiskey Kitchen for yourself. located Whiskey Kitchen – Located at 118 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203 As we may or may not know The Food Network and The Travel Channel are some of my guild pleasures. One place that I had the chance to see on both stations and never forgot was Prince’s Hot Chicken . This is one of the most down home locations I had the opportunity to patronize. They are known for their Nashville Hot Chicken and they gave me just that. Every order of chicken comes with 2 pieces of bread to not only soak up the grease but help you your taste buds when the cayenne pepper starts dancing on your tongue. “Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road????? To Get Fried” . This is what you see on the uniforms of the staff at Prince’s. I tried the medium chicken, which was still hot BUT man was it worth it. The sides were perfectly made. I recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. Be prepared, due to high demand wait times can exceed 30 minutes but once again IT’S WORTH IT. Prince’s Hot Chicken Located at 123 Ewing Dr, Nashville, TN 37207 I want everyone to meet Ms Irene Long. As I waited in the line to order my chicken and receive my chicken at Prince’s, my attention was caught by this lady sitting by the order window with another of my guilty pleasures…Cakes and Pies. While inquiring about these delectable treats, we struck up actual conversation. I won’t go in depth but the moral of the story is find your passion and make it your purpose. Once you have a purpose , you have a career no matter how young or how old. I am now a fan of Ms Irene. I got the opportunity to try Chess Square Cake, Chess Pie and Chocolate Chess Pie. I have never tried them ,only heard of them. The flavors combined tickled my taste-buds and had me wanting more. Last week couldn’t have been among the best weeks Memphis Grizzlies small forward Matt Barnes has ever had due to a series of transgressions that took place. Firstly, in a Milwaukee Bucks game last week, Barnes attempted a layup before Buck power forward John Henson annihilated the shot. Henson went on to engage in a form of a diatribe, scolding Barnes with a look of “I’m brawnier than you.” Of course, Barnes didn’t take this too lightly as he charged Henson before peacekeepers accomplished their mission. The game was out of reach because the Bucks were up 96-86 with six seconds left in the contest. Still, Henson earned a technical foul for taunting, his second of the game, which resulted in an ejection. As Henson headed towards the tunnel, he hyped the hometown crowd with a series of trendy gestures.  Shortly thereafter, Barnes bolted in the direction of Henson. On Saturday it was announced that Barnes would be suspended a game for following Henson into the locker-room and his verbal altercation which happened just before. NBA faithful shouldn’t be surprised with Barnes’ escapade; after all, he’s done this before in other fashions. Secondly, in recent photos captured by TheCelebriteanews, Derek Fisher is seen on a vacation intimately with Barnes’ ex-wife, Gloria Govan, who was famously known to be on the critically acclaimed reality series Basketball Wives. Before this NBA season, Barnes was tipped off that Fisher was romancing Govan inside of her home, a place where Barnes once lived. Barnes then journeyed to the house and blows were thrown. Fisher didn’t want to press any charges according to the New York Post. Breathe, Stretch, Shake, Let it Go… Stop being in the gym for 4 hours! It’s not necessary. Think about it, after going hard for an hour you do not have the same intensity that you had when you first started. Try to keep your workouts to 45 minutes max. 5. You can sleep when you’re dead, THAT’S A LIE! You have to rest your body. Your muscles actually grow when you are resting and when you are sleeping. If you are working out all the time and staying up all night, sorry to say, you won’t see a difference. This 90 million deal will be Netflix’s largest movie deal to date. Production is reportedly supposed to begin in the Fall. For the first time ever, IMG Models has signed a plus-size male model, Zach Miko, which led to their recent decision to expand into a sub-genre of modeling IMG aptly calls, “brawn.” “Brawn” is the name of its plus-size men’s division and the current president at IMG Models, Ivan Bart, is excited about the expansion. He recently stated that “Brawn has a body positive message. Brawn is physical strength. The body positive messaging and size diversity is something that’s relevant and something that continues to be on everybody’s mind. As the week comes to an end, as your day comes to an end one thing a Gentleman loves to do is enjoy a good drink. Here is our Quintessential TOP 5 list of drink recipes EVERY Gentleman should know. MANHATTAN Originally invented in the 1870s, the Manhattan is one of THE classic cocktails. Like most of the originals, this one allows you to taste the liquor in its full essence. 2 oz rye or bourbon 1/2 oz sweet vermouth 1-2 dashes bitters Maraschino cherry or lemon twist for garnish Combine the rye, vermouth and bitters in a mixing glass or shaker with ice. Stir, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with your choice of cherry or lemon twist. MARTINI The original martini was made with gin but most people have become used to vodka . 2-1/2 oz gin (or Vodka) 1/2 oz dry vermouth Olives for garnish Pour gin/vodka into a shaker or mixing glass with vermouth and ice. Stir , then strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with olives or lemon twist. OLD FASHIONED 2 oz bourbon 3-4 dashes bitters 1/2 oz sugar or sugar cube (simple syrup works as well) Splash of soda Optional: Cherry or orange slice for muddling, or lemon twist for garnish Add the sugar or simple syrup to the bottom of a rocks glass. Add the bitters and a splash of soda. Muddle together the sugar, bitters and soda. Add ice, and pour in the bourbon, and stir it all together. SIDECAR It is considered one of the classic “sours,” in the same family as the whiskey sour and the margarita. 2 oz brandy 1 oz Cointreau 1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice A bit of sugar for the rim (optional) Combine brandy, Cointreau and lime juice in a shaker with ice and shake . Strain and pour into the chilled cocktail glass. On The Rocks Glass Ice Cubes Your Favorite Liquor This by far is one of the easiest drinks to prepare. If you haven’t heard of Masculine Footwear you will soon. The Quintessential Gentleman sat down with CEO and Founder Hasan Yates to find out more about how he started his luxury shoe brand Masculine . Before you started Masculine Footwear, what were you doing? I was doing a number of things from barber school, studying to be a truck driver, but ended up at a regular 9 to 5 job. What made you start Masculine Footwear? I was buying Jordan’s repeatedly but wanted to create something much more in luxury footwear. I feel anybody can do what they put their mind too and my passion of shoes led me to create Masculine. How did you go about getting Masculine Footwear off the ground? First, I had to get to a place of comfort and knowledge in which I was doing. Atlanta is known for big name brands and molding people’s career into success, I had to get out there and grind non-stop. I was connecting with celebrities at events and social media to introduce my brand. I’ve connected with some great people to help push my brand such as Big Tigger (V103 Radio Personality), Kirk Frost (Love and Hip Hop Atlanta) and Big Mike Clemons (Musician) just to name a few. What were adversities you faced with starting your business? The hardest part has been getting some of my family and friends to support my vision. I don’t know what it is. We all need to support each other in any way, shape or form RIGHT? The people I reach out to or just met in general showed love genuinely. I’ve had support from family and friends now but the ones I really thought was going to show love didn’t. You have the privilege of having your wife as the CFO and cofounder of the company, how has having your wife as your CFO helped to make Masculine Footwear a success? It’s something that you don’t see in the industry to often. She keeps my head on straight when I get frustrated and holds the stress down but also can be nerve wrecking lol When I’m slacking she’s right there to remind me HEY!!! Get up let’s go! Let’s keep it moving! And I appreciate all she has done for me so far on this journey. Who is your biggest influence in the fashion industry? Hands down F.U.B.U creator and business mogul Daymond John. Who is your biggest influence in your personal life? That has to be my grandmother, rest her soul! She looked out for me so much that I can’t explain. I looked up to my parents and older brothers also but my granny is number 1. What advice would you give to someone trying to follow in your footsteps and make their business dreams as reality? Hey!
