  • Nike Unveils their First Women’s Skate Shoe

Earlier this week, Nike announced that they would be releasing a Skate shoe specifically for women. This was and is something long awaited from skaters of all ages. The change comes from the influence of Nike SB Pro Skateboarder Lacey Baker, Leticia Bufoni, and more. While some shoes were considered uni-sex the first intention when designing the shoe was often male. Female Skateboarders would often have to make “adjustments” to the shoes to get the proper feel on their feet. Finally, after a long-awaited absence, Nike has unveiled their first female Nike SB, the Women’s Nike SB Bruin High: Image Courtesy of Nike The Following is an excerpt from Nike’s statement on the SB Bruin High: Baker’s insight is echoed in similar anecdotes — about modifying men’s skate shoes to improve fit — from female Nike SB athletes including Leticia Bufoni, Sarah Meurle, and Josie Millard, as well as multiple female skate crews surveyed by Nike. Some of these adjustments are admittedly ritualistic, potentially helping to boost an athlete’s confidence, and involve tape, microwaving, and other similar actions. Yet they point to a very real need: a skateboarding shoe built for a woman’s foot that doesn’t compromise performance or require modification. You can read the full article here on Nike News. The women’s Nike SB Bruin High will be released on October 5 through the Nike App, Nike.com, and select retailers. Image Courtesy of Nike #Nike #NikeSkate #Skateboarding #Women

  • From Piano Prodigy to Mega Hitmaker Meet Josh X

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to interview Josh X, who has recently written for hip hop’s current no. 1 female rapper Cardi B. Not only have the pair collaborated on “Heaven on My Mind,” but Josh X can be seen in the “Bodak Yellow” video, as well as being accredited for producing and writing 2 songs on Cardi B’s latest mixtape. Josh X is definitely a megastar in the making, with talent, substance, and acute musicianship that is ready to take your soul to the next level. Josh X’s music is almost as unique as his background, born to Haitian parents in Brooklyn New York, Josh has studied at Julliard in classical piano. Some may ask “how does a classically trained musician end up working in hip-hop”? Josh attributes his studies and success to a promise his mother made to herself at a young age. “Growing up my mother wanted to take lessons but her parents were not able to afford them…when she came to the United States at a very young age she kind of taught herself to play…she vowed that when she had her own kids that they would play the piano…which is how I was introduced to the piano.” While at Julliard, Josh X discovered his passion was no longer for classical music, where he also studied jazz and eventually transferred to focus more on r&b music. “As I got older I said I really love R&B music, the artist I loved and listen to was Brian McKnight because he was a piano player.” This past March, Josh X released the critically-acclaimed mixtape, “AMOUR” with close to 2 million streams. AMOUR is definitely not your everyday mixtape, in fact, I would not call it a mixtape at all, instead, I would call it a baby maker. “A lot of people see me with tattoos and don’t think I am about to play Chopin or Bach, I am an artist that really just represents music.” Josh X’s sound mixes various feels, from r&b, reggaeton extravasated of romance, passion and sex appeal. The album’s title, AMOUR, truly encompasses all of the song’s themes. The album gives me a contemporary troubadour feeling, something music has been lacking. I too love a good trap song and club banger, but I wish more rappers spoke from the heart and showed compassion for their love interest. This perhaps is why Drake has been so widely successful, as he has the ability to mix rap and compassion in a way that resonates with both men and women. Josh X, mixtape AMOUR resonates with me with the same ease and appeal that has garnered Drake much success in the industry. With velevty vocals, beautiful instrumentation, and strong reggaton influnce in the beats, AMOUR takes credence in ingenuity and beauty. I would expect nothing less from an artist endorsed by Steve Wonder, to which he promised that he, “ had to be an artist that helps and brings happiness and uplift people with my music.” Still, Josh X brings a level sophisticated swag to r&b that has been so truly needed as of late. His next album “Trapped in Loved,” is one song away from being completed. Josh X describes the masterpieces  asa mix of “traditional r&b sound and put them on top of trap productions.” For me, I have never been a big fan of r&b music, sure I love early Whitney Houston, but her crossover songs, especially her ballads have always been my favorite songs I listened to growing up. When she transitioned into popular music, her soul poured gospel, and r&b into every perfectly placed note within her range. This idea of mixing genres, styles, and sounds is the true work of an artist’s ability to find their own unique voice within an industry that prides itself on originality. But my disdain for r&b music is not just a personal preference but universal movement towards hip-hop seen across the globe. Hip-hop is the top selling genre this year, finally outselling country music. This is significant to the field because, for me, it is a cultural phenomenon that a genre once displaced is finally earning financial and musical success, at a level in which many have felt it always should have had. Still the soul of r&b is deeply needed more so now then ever, as Josh X explains, “We are living in a very complex time where it is better to hate than to love, and when you look at r&b music, that was about love and putting yourself first, respecting yourself, and not letting people break your heart. Today’s music is about popping pills, getting drunk, and getting intoxicated, love is getting pushed out of the way.” Josh wants to bring to hop-hip motives and themes that for thousands of years have been the pinnacle of the musical Josh wants to bring to hop-hip motives and themes that for thousands of years have been the pinnacle of the musical canon, love, heartbreak, upliftment, and soul. As of late, mainstream music has turned away from this and decided to focus on escapism, running away from the truth of pain, poverty, and burden. While I love so much of trap music, I often find myself perturbed by the lyrics and subcultures that not only consume the artist lyrics but the personification of being. I look forward to hearing more Josh X, as I do feel the world needs more music that aims to bring hope and inspire, sure we need to turn up for the club, but we also need to turn up for our soul. Check out Josh X mixtape Amour below. What are your thoughts on Josh X, please comment below. #Entertainment #JoshX #Music

  • Carmelo Anthony Says Goodbye

There was always going to be a day that Carmelo Anthony left the shadow of MSG and the Empire state. Most fans thought that day would have come at the end of the contract he signed with the Knicks all those seasons ago. Carmelo loved New York and New York loved him. He was proud to be a Knick and never wanted to be anything else. {JARED WICKERHAM/GETTY IMAGES} After getting traded on Saturday to the Oklahoma City, New Yorkers gave their support and well wishes to the multiple time all-star. The package the Knicks got back wasn’t much for fans to get excited about but the fans did receive one thing from Melo on his way out. Anthony penned a goodbye letter to New York that is worth the read. The following is an excerpt from that goodbye letter, New York equipped me to make it in any other place in the world.  It taught me how to Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable.  Saying Goodbye is the hardest thing to do.  I never thought I would, especially to you.  No one will ever take your place. It’s hard to find someone like you, so know you will always be missed. You helped me laugh. You dried my tears.  Because of you, I have no fears.  You came into my life and I was blessed.  It’s time to raise my hand and say goodbye.  It’s not the end, because like I’ve always said, NYC ‘til the end. Melo says goodbye to NY. pic.twitter.com/NKqTZyoqD0 — Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) September 23, 2017 #CarmeloAnthony #Knicks #NewYork

  • Less is More…. What a Resume in 2017 Should Look Like

Do you know what your resume should look like in today’s market? When was the last time your resume was updated? Is your resume ready to go when the perfect opportunity lands in your lap? Are you using an objective statement or the phrase ‘references upon request’ on your resume? Is your resume really yours or did you copy and paste the format from someone else? It’s hard to take a step back from your resume. The resume you have spent time on, hours even? Perfecting the simplest details… matching the font on your resume and cover letter, making it look a bit more… “dynamic” and cutting out unnecessary details. Your resume can become a personal and intimate document, a reflection of you. Hopefully,? a document that makes you feel proud of all the work you have accomplished. Your resume can also be?the bane of your existence, unsure of where to start and how to make your experience count. It can?become something you push further and further down on your to-do list because it is extremely time?intensive if left unattended for too long. But is pride standing in your way of getting a fresh perspective? Is that blank resume stopping you from applying to open positions, because “you will do it later? Are you restricting yourself without even knowing it? With such limited space on that precious paper, you need to make sure every inch counts so you can stand out and make it to the top of the pile. The goal of your resume is to get called in for an interview and to make the hiring manager want to meet with you. If you have received interview previously due to your resume, you know that you are heading in the right direction. Everyone needs to update their resume, even if they get through the interview process successfully. Maybe it would help you to look into something like employment personality testing, to apply some of these skills to your resume. But only do so if they are true to you. Once you get to the interview, the employer will ask you about this and if you have lied, you will get caught out. You want to make the best first impression before getting the offer for an interview. Writing a resume can be a little challenging for some of us, particularly if you’re not using a professional resume format. It is not impossible to do and with a little hard work, you can make yourself sound great. Don’t sell yourself short; take all the help you can get! Here are 3 quick tips for updating the content on that resume of yours: Objective – Be GONE! Recruiters and hiring managers spend less than 5 minutes reading the top portion of your?resume. Don’t waste that space using an outdated “objective. The same applies for the use of?the phrase “references upon request. References are a given in today’s market. If a future? employer requires references, they will ask for it. Employers also know your objective is to get a? J-O-B. Instead of using an objective, focus on adding quantitative metrics throughout your ?resume that you think will benefit the employer. If deleting the objective makes you cry tears of sadness, do not fret, you can add a professional?summary under your contact information. The summary statement is best used for?professionals with years of experience but it can also help candidates tie together seemingly ?unrelated experience with a set of key transferable skills; think entry-level or professionals?making a career change. Writing the summary statement is a good exercise to complete; as it?can help you prepare for the interview and answer the dreaded “Tell me about yourself ?question. Two for one! An example of an experienced professional summary might be: 15+ years of B2B sales,?consistently a top performer exceeding sales goals and targets. Known for developing business,?prospecting and retaining customers, as well as identifying solutions to address client needs.? A recent college graduate entry-level professional summary might be: Client driven professional?known for calmly and quickly resolving client issues by leveraging years of retail experience.? Collaborative individual reflective of the four years spent playing collegiate team sports. Answering the So-What The main reason people put off working on their resume is that it takes time. You need to read every word, every bullet and every phrase on your resume. Really read it. Read it out loud to a neighbor if you have to. When you are called in for the interview, you should know your resume inside and out. If you need to explain what a bullet point means instead of expanding upon it during the interview, it’s not clearly written. The interviewer should be able to ask “Can you tell me more about xyz and not “What does xyz even mean? Each bullet should clearly answer: “SO WHAT? Why did you select that bullet point to?highlight? Does it highlight a skill that is listed in the job description you are applying to? Is this point something you are particularly good at? Most people select the right points to highlight but do not present them in the right way. Hiring managers and recruiters are busy, often looking at multiple resumes at the same time, don’t assume they will connect the dots and link your experience to what they require. Don’t just tell the reader you “Manage a portfolio. Answer the “SO WHAT? Why should the reader care you manage a portfolio? If you ask yourself that question after each point, your resume will stand out. Did you manage the portfolio successfully? Was this portfolio for clients? Was the portfolio for 5 people or was it a $5M portfolio? See where I am going here? Instead write, “Manage and develop expansion strategies for a $5M global client portfolio. Answering the “SO WHAT, helps the hiring manager learn more about you and it can clearly demonstrate your value-add to their company. Remove Weightless Phrases: Experienced, Dedicated, Skilled. While these are strong attributes to showcase, simply stating them is not worth the precious space on your paper. Lots of candidates will say they are dedicated, motivated and organized. How will you stand out from the crowd? Show the interviewer how you are experienced and dedicated. Instead of saying you have “strong execution skills, you could write “Led a team of 15 people to develop, and execute a global rebranding strategy across the organization. Instead of saying you are “extremely organized, you could write, “Created and implemented a new vendor tracking system that organizes monthly invoices. These detailed yet concise explanations will allow the interviewer to ask you more detailed questions and gain a better understanding of your skills. Your responses at the interview will be tailored to highlight your strengths and make you stand out from the competition and hopefully get an offer. Written by Megan Senese of MKS Resume Services. • Gamecocks Win Thriller

COLUMBIA S.C. — The South Carolina Gamecocks showed their never-say-die moxie on a picture-perfect afternoon. In front of spirited collegiate students decked out in Gamecock apparel at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia on Saturday afternoon, the Gamecocks (3-1) were able to escape the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (2-2) 17-16 thanks to a Parker White 31-yard field goal with four seconds left in the game. After South Carolina kicked the ball off to LA Tech with just four seconds left in the game, the Bulldogs couldn’t run it back for a miracle win. Gamecock head coach Will Muschamp said he was proud of his team. “I’m surely proud of the effort of our football team,” Muschamp said. “We have a great culture here. We have a lot of positive things going on.” The drive culminated in a game-winning field goal directly after LA Tech’s Jonathan Barnes kicked a 25-yard field goal with 55 seconds left in the fourth, which made the score 16-14. The Gamecock game-winning drive was a thing of beauty, too. With under a minute left in the ball game on third and ten, Gamecock quarterback Jake Bentley took maters into his own hands, scampering 24 yards for a much-needed first down. This game-defining play was the start of something special, as the drive ended with a game-winning field goal. Bentley was 22-for-34 with 295 yards and a touchdown. Other South Carolina scoring plays included a 35-yard touchdown run by Ty’Son Williams with 4:52 left in the fourth and a 28-yard touchdown reception by Ortre Smith from Bentley with 11:06 left in the fourth. Smith had two receptions for 36 yards, while his counterpart wide receiver Bryan Edwards caught the pigskin six times for 122 yards. Williams rushed the rock for 92 yards. The Bulldogs kept things interesting, especially after jumping out to a 13-0 lead that lasted until the fourth thanks to an LA Tech quarterback J’Mar Smith three-yard touchdown pass to Teddy Veal with 8:54 left in the third quarter. The rest of the Bulldog scores were from field goals. Smith was 23-for-33 for 281 yards and a touchdown, while Veal caught the ball for 110 yards and a score. Next up for the Gamecocks will be Texas A&M. #collegefootball #Gamecocks #LATech #Sports
