How Understanding Your Personality Type Can Benefit Your Future

A study published in 2013 by Peter J. Rentfrow, a psychologist from the University of Cambridge in the U.K, suggests that the United States' population is broken up into three different psychological regions based on different personality traits. This means that where you live could have an impact on your own personality traits and how outgoing and friendly you are. Living in a specific region may have the potential to impact on the way you behave based on your environmental and biological factors. While some individuals have a personality trait that pushes them to strive for success and become a leader, others may be more introverted or too anxious to take on a leadership role. If you're looking to improve your future, learning your own personality type can greatly benefit you by helping you to understand how your thoughts, feelings and actions affect the things you do and the decisions you make.

Learning Your Personality Type

There are 16 different personality types, and they all help explain your temperament and character. For example, the personality type INTJ describes “big picture” thinkers with an inherent ability to ‘join the dots.” While research claims the majority of your personality changes will occur before reaching 30, it's important to understand how your current personality type will shape your future. Taking a quick personality test online can give you the answers you're searching for, but you won't always have to take a full test to understand the basics of your own personality type.

If you're introverted, you may feel more refreshed and energized after spending time alone. On the other hand, if you're more of an extroverted type, being with a big group of people may make you feel more comfortable. Having a good intuition about certain situations along with the sense of feeling others' emotions can also give you insight into the personality type you possess. For example, if you tend to have a gut feeling before something goes wrong, keep in mind that this is a distinct part of your personality type, and it's a good idea to use this to your advantage when it comes to your current and future lifestyle choices. Sensing, feeling, thinking, intuition, introvert/extrovert, perception and judgment all make up the foundation of a person's personality type, and knowing your specific type can help you focus on bettering your future.

Shaping Your Future

Once you understand which personality type you possess, you can begin to use it to your advantage for a successful future. Doing this can help you find a stable career that you both thrive at and enjoy. Recognizing how your personality affects your mentality can give you an upper hand on deciding what you want out of life. Mindfulness, good nutrition, and brain exercises also are great ways to boost your brain and mental health. Ultimately, this new discovery will also allow you to learn your own strengths and weaknesses, which can improve your relationships and overall lifestyle. As an introvert, you may not thrive in careers that require a lot of stimulation and dealing with multiple people. Extroverted personalities, however, may flourish in those settings.

While the variety of personality types may seem overwhelming, there are simple ways for you to easily find out which type you own through taking a test. Once you acquire your own personality type, it can open new doors for a successful future with stable jobs, healthy relationships, and self-acceptance.
