The Hughley Truth Discusses the Black Agenda
Last week, DL Hughley held a live taping of his podcast The Hughley Truth during AdWeek at the Playstation Theater in New York City.
DL and the crew invited a full panel of guests for this special event. The introduction was given by Matt Scheckner, Founder of Stillwell Partners and Global CEO of Advertising Week. Guests included: Ali Velshi (“Velshi & Ruhle” on MSNBC), Taneshia Nash Laird (Former director of economic development for the city of Trenton, NJ), Tamika Mallory (an activist and the founder of Mallory Consulting), and Byron Garrett (Director of Educational Leadership & Policy for Microsoft) Michael Garner (Chief Diversity Officer for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority).
This episode focused on the Black Agenda and tried to identify the root of issues within the black community. By the end of the conversation, it seemed that education is where change needs to begin. Mr. Garret said, “One of the biggest challenges that we see, is that we don’t have the right staff actually working in the district or school equipped to actually teach the students that are sitting in the classroom.” The idea that everyone has the tools that they need to succeed is not true. There needs to be more training of teachers and staff so that they are able to teach and support the children inside their classroom.
