Larry Fitzgerald Purchases Minority Stake in Phoenix Suns

One of the all-time leading receivers in the history of the NFL has invested his earnings in ownership.

Arizona Cardinals’ future Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald purchased a minority stake in the Phoenix Suns today, according to ESPN.com.

With the investment, Fitzgerald has become just the second active NFL player to become a minority owner for a team. Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers purchased a minority stake in the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018.

While Fitzgerald made it official today that he is a minority owner of the Suns, he has been active in Suns’ official business, including sitting in on potential candidates for the front office and canvassing for a Suns public arena vote. Still, he won’t become even more active until he is retired from the game, as Fitzgerald just signed a one-year deal with the Cardinals.

“I have a special place in my heart for the Phoenix Suns and Mercury, and I have a great deal of respect for Robert (Suns managing partner Robert Sarver),” Fitzgerald said in a statement. “He has become a dear friend and trusted confidante. He is a big part of why I am making this commitment.”

Fitzgerald is expected to bring credibility to the Suns because of the Hall of Famer’s resume in the Phoenix community. He is involved with charitable foundations, and was honored as the NFL’s 2016 Walter Payton Man of the Year.

Fitzgerald, 36, is the second leading receiver of all-time, amassing 1,378 catches, 17,083 yards and 120 touchdowns in 16 seasons, reprising a big game appearance in the Super Bowl versus the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2009, the 2008 season.
