Fashion Friday Featuring Celebrity Fashion Stylist Julian Lark

Julian Lark needs no introduction. Since his arrival to the Atlanta fashion scene, celebrity fashion stylist and editor in chief of Kontrol Magazine, Julian Lark has worked with some of the biggest stars in the business. His successful magazine has featured cover stories by Nick Cannon, Tamar Braxton, Elle Varner, Raven Symoné, Lil Kim and many more since its inception in 2009. 

Never one to rest on his laurels, Lark is also spreading his wings to the world of beauty. He recently launched his own cosmetic line, Revel by Julian Lark. Whatever it is, Lark is always at the top of his game.

The fashion guru who helped to transform looks for the Braxtons, Kandi Burrus, Trina, TLC, Brandy, Chrisette Michele, Mary Mary and many more, took a moment to chat with The Quintessential Gentleman about being an entrepreneur and to give the readers an inside look into his journey as he maneuvers through the rugged terrain we call the fashion industry.

QG: What inspired you to start?

Julian Lark: I have always had a love for fashion and the evolution in style since I was in the 4th grade. My future goals has genuinely always involved fashion design and styling amongst the masses. 

QG: What keeps you motivated?

Julian Lark: My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and the fact that I knew that I was not the type of individual who foresee my career amongst working for someone else. I have always wanted to have a brand involving my name, my creativity, as well as, to leave a legacy.

QG: What does your craft mean to you?

Julian Lark For me, It means that hard work, consistency, dedication, perseverance, and not sleeping until I get the job done if that’s what it takes.

QG: Who is one of your inspirations?

Julian Lark: One of my inspirations is Kimora Lee Simmons and her endeavors in fashion.

QG: When did you realize you wanted to start a fashion stylist?

Julian Lark: Fashion has always been my calling, it is my canvas that allows me to infuse art, creativity, unlimited fashion sense and evolution as a celebrity wardrobe stylist. I knew!

QG: How would you define your personal style?

Julian Lark: My personal style is clean, classic yet with a bold edgy.

QG: What is your favorite thing about your career?

Julian Lark: My favorite thing about my career is learning something new everyday. Learning new things from my clients and my team. Also, the fact that I get to work for myself.

QG: What advice would you give to someone who would like to start a business?

Julian Lark: My advice is to never give up no matter how hard it gets and to pursue something that you truly love because it never gets easy. So if you love what you do work won’t feel like work.

QG: What is the most important thing to you about your brand?

Julian Lark: The most important thing as an entrepreneur it to speak your goals into existence while working towards them, be consistent in your actions, and be positive no matter how tough its gets.

QG: Any pregame rituals?

Julian Lark: My key successful tool is to pray before an event or shoot that I am involved in.

QG: What is a random/interesting fact about yourself?

Julian Lark: A lot of people may not know this, but I am extremely shy.

QG: Where do you want to be in 5 years?

Julian lark: In 5 years I want to be running to the bank with the luxury of having multiple accounts that is open for my usage, and have an amazing evolving brand.
