Daughter of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay, fatally shot

Trinity Gay, 15, daughter of Olympian Tyson Gay, was fatally shot Sunday morning in Lexington, Kentucky.

According to WKYT, the Fayette County Coroner said Trinity died from a gunshot wound to her neck just before 5 a.m.

Lexington police said they responded to a call of shots fired at a restaurant around 4 a.m. Officials said Trinity was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said they have two persons of interest in the case.

Following in her father’s footsteps, Trinity was a top sprinter at Lafayette High in Lexington. She finished fourth in last year’s 100-meter dash state championship. Tyson also ran at Lafayette and still holds the state record for the 100 set in 2001.

Tyson Gay has competed in every Summer Olympic Games since 2008. He won a silver medal in the 4×100-meter relay at the 2012 London Games, but was stripped of his medal after testing positive for steroids in 2013.
