Colin Kaepernick Provides Legal Assistance For Minneapolis Protesters
On May 29th, Colin Kaepernick announced on social media that he would provide legal assistance to people who are protesting in Minneapolis. Paid by his Know Your Rights Camp, Kaepernick is providing financial assistance for protesters who require legal representation. The group was created to enrich communities of color through education and self-empowerment through fostering the next generation of leaders.
In the events following George Floyd's death, Minneapolis is in turmoil. Floyd died last Monday after an officer knelt on his neck for eight minutes as his cries and witnesses' pleas to stop were ignored. A bystander recorded the entire senseless act of violence.
Officer Derek Chauvin and the three officers present that didn't intervene were fired. Chauvin was arrested Friday and charged with third-degree murder. What initially began as peaceful protests have escalated to violence, arson, and looting.
