Just in time for Mental Health Awareness Month, 1/3 of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God shared his new book cover on Monday. It’s titled, Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks On Me. The best part is it’s already up for pre-order online! The official release will be this Fall, and according to Amazon, specifically on October 23, 2018. This is the follow-up to Charlamagne’s debut authoring of his New York Times Bestselling, Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes To Those Who Create It, which is also out now on Paperwork.
It’s been a year since he reminded us it’s a privilege to be black and he now wants to talk about anxiety, depression, therapy, and all those things that people often run away from speaking about. Although it can be daunting to speak about, when someone in the public eye speaks about anxiety, depression and mental health in general, this can make it easier for others to come forward and share their stories. If it wasn’t for people like Charlamagne speaking up, the idea of checking out something like a ghost train haze review or finding other ways to manage these symptoms may not be something people would be familiar with.
He is bringing these conversations to the light, as he always does when no one else speaks the truth. You can always count on Lenard McKelvey to give it to you straight, no chaser. As one of the most loved and hated media personalities, Charlamagne is used to putting people in uncomfortable positions. He’ll put you on the spot quick, and we all know he will, so the conversations around self-worth and anxiety shouldn’t come as a surprise. The hope is that this masterpiece will spark healthy dialogue about the subjects and allow you to walk in your truth as well.
Showing a more vulnerable side this time, Charlamagne is known for being raw and candid about all things and this is no different. He has been open about therapy, stating you’ll know where he is, every Friday at 3:00 pm. Recently, he made headlines with the ever-so-controversial Kanye West after a two-hour long interview. After Kanye’s mental down spiraling, Charlamagne was one of the first people he felt closest to and open enough to disclose his deepest thoughts. As a mental health advocate, Charlamagne is gifting the world and black men with the voice to live transparently.
The official synopsis states:
“Fear is holding you back. It’s time to turn the tables and channel your fears to actually fuel your success.”
“Being shook is more than a rap lyric for Charlamagne, it’s his mission to overcome. While it may seem like he is ahead of the game and should have nothing to worry about, he is still plagued by anxieties—fear of being weak; fear of being a bad dad; fear of being a worse husband; and ultimately fear of failure. SHOOK ONE is his journey to beat back those fears and to empower you to no longer be held back from yo
