5 Ways to Feel Better After Your Thanksgiving Meal

Thanksgiving Day is upon us. We all cannot wait to get our hands on delicious foods like turkey and that special cheesecake.

However, the meal can become a little too heavy for a smooth digestion process. Other foods that you might indulge in at the meal include mashed potatoes, sauces, sweet potatoes, and pies. These foods are generally high in refined carbohydrates and sugar, making it difficult for the stomach to break them down.

It is also common for us to end up eating more than our capacity during the meal that accompanies Thanksgiving Day. As a result, you may end up feeling low on energy, bloated and inactive.

But you don’t have to worry anymore. This article is going to delve into some of the effective ways to feel better after a Thanksgiving meal.

Accept the detriment

Usually, after eating a fatty meal, you might end up going into a self-loathing mode. This might break your confidence to get a good recovery after the meal.

Lying on the couch and thinking about it is not going to address the issue. Hence, the first step should be to accept the damage the meal has caused and think about the steps you can take to overcome them.

Plan a week of detox or even cut down on the junk foods for the following days. Promise yourself to exercise every day to attain the fitness you always wanted.

Taking these steps and thinking positive can make you feel a lot a better about yourself.

Take a walk

Sitting around in front of your TV or feeling lazy to get up might cause more harm than good. It might disrupt the digestion of the food. Hence, get on your feet and go for a walk. A study suggests that taking a few steps after eating a high-caloric meal is good for the management of the weight.

Walking revs up the metabolism and helps break down the food at a faster pace. This can also reduce the amount of fat your body stores after you get finished with your meal.

As per a study, you are likely to reduce the fat concentration in your body by a whopping 70% when you partake in a light walk after a meal. Just make sure you don’t indulge in any heavy exercise, since it may cause the onset of vomiting.

Ditch the leftover food

There is always a dish or the other that gets leftover even after everyone is done eating their meals.

As long as it stays in the sight, you may end up eating it again just after a while. It is a thing about the delicious foods that we end up eating them more even if we are full up to the brim. In order to divert your attention from the leftovers, pack the remaining food in a container and put them in the fridge.

You can also encourage the guests to take along the leftover dish if they wish to volunteer.

About the high-caloric food that you put in your fridge for eating later, make sure you eat it in the daytime.

The metabolism rate is at the highest at that time and the timing will help you in quick digestion of the food.

Focus on the next meal

Having a meal of excess calories does not have to define you and your health. Thus, lay your emphasis on inculcating a good amount of vegetables and fruits in your subsequent meals. Pick a set of foods that you like and are nutritious at the same time.

There is a long range of foods you can choose from. However, a list of healthy foods with the addition of broccoli, avocados, eggs, salmon, lean meat, watermelons, spinach, carrots, and garlic is an incomplete list.

These foods are not only wholesome but also have the capability of cleansing the system efficiently.

Our brain takes about 20 minutes to asses that our stomach is full. Thus, ensure that you eat meals that fulfill 80% of your hunger the entire day that follows after Thanksgiving.

For those who crave chocolates are in for a surprise. You can take a piece of dark chocolate every now and then for the amazing health benefits it has.

Perform Yoga

Our bodies undergo a bit of strain after a heavy meal, especially like the one on Thanksgiving. Yoga can provide some help here by giving a boost to the digestion of the food.

It is known to calm the nervous system, lower the blood pressure and manage the heart rate. Some of the studies have found out that yoga release feel-good hormones like serotonin and oxytocin in the body.

This helps in lowering the anxiety disorders, stress and even the symptoms of depression. Hence, a bit of meditation and yoga shall go a long way in easing your stomach nerves and keep indigestion, fatigue, and constipation at bay.

Take out a bottle of Pinot Noir and enjoy it with your loved ones this Thanksgiving. This day is about spending quality time with them. Just follow the above-mentioned tips after the meal and drive away the resultant blues with success.
