The end of an era is officially upon us. Prime Video has just dropped the highly anticipated trailer for the fifth and final season of its hit satirical superhero series, The Boys. Promising to deliver the bloody, jaw-dropping conclusion fans have been waiting for, the final season is set to premiere on April 8 with a two-episode launch, followed by weekly releases leading up to the epic series finale on May 20.
After years of escalating tension, corporate corruption, and mind-bending plot twists, the stage is finally set for the ultimate showdown between Billy Butcher and Homelander.
Picking up where the dramatic events of the fourth season left off, the new footage reveals a terrifying reality. Following the enactment of martial law, Homelander has effectively taken over the country and is making himself quite comfortable behind the desk in the Oval Office.
However, ruling the United States is simply not enough for the egomaniacal Supe. The trailer reveals his chilling new quest for absolute immortality, which involves hunting down V-One, the original and most potent iteration of Compound V. To help him prepare the nation for his so-called “ascension,” Homelander thaws out his father, Soldier Boy, setting up a chaotic and darkly humorous family reunion.
Meanwhile, the titular vigilante group is in absolute disarray. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie find themselves locked away as prisoners in a Vought-sanctioned “Freedom Camp.” This leaves Annie January, also known as Starlight, to try and mount a desperate resistance against the overwhelming Supe regime.
Fans of the wider cinematic universe will be thrilled to see Annie recruiting some familiar super-powered faces from the Gen V spinoff, including blood-manipulator Marie Moreau, to help even the odds against Homelander’s forces.
Of course, Billy Butcher is never truly out of the fight. Armed with his terrifying new Compound V-induced tentacle powers, Butcher is back and more ruthless than ever. The trailer makes it explicitly clear that he is fully prepared to cross the ultimate line by deploying a deadly virus designed to wipe every single Supe off the face of the planet. His reckless, all-or-nothing plan threatens to set off a catastrophic chain of events that will permanently reshape the world.
Returning to deliver this explosive farewell is the show’s powerhouse core cast, including Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Jesse T. Usher, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Chace Crawford, and Jensen Ackles.
The season will also feature new appearances from Daveed Diggs, as well as Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins.
