Off the heels of a whirlwind awards season, Sinners breakout star Miles Caton is proving he is just getting started. Today, the multi-hyphenate singer and actor released Don’t Hate Me, the highly anticipated lead single from his forthcoming debut EP, coming out this summer.

It has been a monumental year for the 21-year-old Brooklyn native. As we highlighted in our recent cover story, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners Introduces a Breakout Star: Miles Caton, Caton’s cinematic debut sent shockwaves through Hollywood.

But long before he was gracing the silver screen, Caton was already considered music royalty. Born to legendary gospel singer Timiney Figueroa, Caton’s powerhouse vocals were cultivated in the church. His undeniable talent eventually caught the ear of Grammy-winning R&B superstar H.E.R. While touring as one of her background vocalists, she saw his massive potential and personally encouraged him to audition for Coogler’s supernatural period piece.

Caton’s star power was on full display during the 2026 awards circuit. He commanded the stage at the 98th Academy Awards, delivering a show-stopping live performance of the Oscar-nominated track I Lied to You from the Sinners soundtrack. Joined by blues legend Buddy Guy and iconic ballerina Misty Copeland, Caton proved he could effortlessly hold his own among industry titans.

Now, he is ready to reintroduce himself on his own terms. While walking the 2026 Grammys red carpet, Caton caught up with Fader to tease what fans can expect from his solo music now that he is stepping outside of the Sinners universe.

“I have an EP coming out summertime, and I’m super excited for that,” he shared on the carpet. When asked what the project sounds like, Caton promised a fresh direction. “I can tell you that it’s gonna be very, very different and it’s going to be interesting—I think it’s going to be a little bit unexpected, but I think people are going to really rock with it. I’ve been working on my sonics and my sound and just really ready to tell my story.”

Don’t Hate Me gives us our first glimpse into that sonic evolution. The track is a raw, introspective dive into relationship struggles, commitment issues, and the messy reality of self-awareness. Over a smooth, contemporary production, Caton’s vocals shine as he wrestles with the guilt of not being able to give his partner what they need.

In the infectious chorus, he pleads:

“Don’t hate me / I know this heart of mine it drives you crazy / You want a promise, but I’m just a maybe / Your worst is twice the best that I can do / But baby, don’t hate me for loving you.” He perfectly captures the “in-between” purgatory of modern romance, singing about being “Old enough to know you’re good for me / And I’m young enough to never look back.”

If Don’t Hate Me is any indication of what his new EP holds, Miles Caton is about to dominate the charts just as easily as he took over the box office. Listen here.
