Marvel fans, get ready to head back to Hollywood. Disney+ has officially renewed its highly anticipated series Wonder Man for a second season. The renewal guarantees that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be back to reprise his role as Simon Williams.

In this fresh adaptation, Marvel has brilliantly reimagined Simon as a Haitian character, bringing a vital new layer of authentic cultural representation to the MCU. Joining him once again is MCU veteran Ben Kingsley, who is set to return as the delightfully unpredictable Trevor Slattery.

For those who haven’t caught up on the premise, Wonder Man offers a unique, meta spin on the superhero genre. The Disney+ series follows Simon Williams (Abdul-Mateen II), an aspiring actor struggling to get his career off the ground. His trajectory changes during a chance encounter with Trevor Slattery (Kingsley), a fading star whose best days are seemingly well behind him.

Together, the duo learns that legendary director Von Kovak (played by Zlatko Buric) is mounting a remake of the superhero film Wonder Man. What follows is a dogged pursuit by two actors at opposite ends of their careers trying to land life-changing roles, giving audiences a hilarious and dramatic peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.

Behind the camera, the show’s creative backbone remains fully in place to continue building out Simon’s world. Series co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest are officially on board for the sophomore run. Guest will continue his duties as showrunner and executive producer, while Cretton is returning to the director’s chair and executive producing.

With the green light for Season 2 already flashing, it is clear Disney sees serious franchise potential in Simon Williams’ Hollywood hustle and the powerful storytelling opportunities his background provides.
